3 new fake flash sellers on ebay?

with 2 comments

We became aware today of three new sellers that may be selling fake flash drives. The seller ID’s and item numbers that were reported as possible fakes were as follows:

janisabele item 170291166802
paypalzzg9527 item 260341573046
rongcle item 220338803452

If you bought a flash drive from any of these sellers please test the drive with h2testw (you can download this free from the page about it on this blog in the testing category) – then send an email to with the test results, seller id and item number if it fails the test. If it passes the test send an email to the same address giving the seller ID and item number saying that it passed – this will help to establish whether these are genuine sellers or fraudsters.

Ebay and Paypal seem to be doing little to combat flash fraud. The worst aspect is not that buyers lose money – it is the loss of valuable files that is at stake. In my case it could have been my students’ video work – resulting in many hours of work being wasted.
