Buying Kingston and Sony USB Flash Drives On eBay Safely – A Guide

leave a comment »

If you exercise care and research you can occasionally buy genuine Kingston and Sony USB Flash drives on eBay. BUT you need to do your homework first!

Please review the information presented to help you find genuine USB flash from Kingston and Sony on eBay.

SONY USB FLASH DRIVES:

  • If you see a USB flash drive advertises as Sony that shows the Vaio name (either on the packaging or the flash drive) it is certainly a fake that will corrupt files.
  • If the capacity of a Sony USB flash drive is advertised as over 16GB it is certainly a fake that will corrupt files.
  • If a Sony USB flash drive is advertised on ebay at a much lower price than you can see elsewhere on the Internet it is likely to be a fake that will corrupt files.

Always check the Sony website before buying to ensure the model exsits – please note Sony uses the name microvault for USB flash drives, NEVER the name Vaio:

KINGSTON USB FLASH DRIVES:

For suspect Kingston usb flash drives please review these articles presented at Fighting flash fraud on Ebay to help you recognize the models and the packaging. Kingston has a new higher capacity usb line now. It appears that the older smaller DataTraveler models are being reprogrammed and repackaged to higher false capacity sizes. These are counterfeits. To help you please examine the Kingston site for their models and also the colour coding.

Unfortunately stamping on shell casings for size and any serial numbers – do not seem to guarantee that the item is genuine. The only sure way is to test your drive using h2testw.

Always consult the manufacturers site for either Sony or Kingston before bidding or buying these brand names on eBay for USB Flash Drives. It will help you to find the genuine flash drives from these brand names.
