Suspect packaging alerts ebay buyers to fake flash on ebay

with one comment

Recently fightfakeflash noticed that ebayers have reported the re-appearance of flash drives in packaging used for fake flash drives some time ago. An example can be seen below:

This is the picture that UK seller gnmv68 used in a listing. This ebayer was apparently an innocent victim of fraud who (after advice from an ebayer that the flash drives were likely to be fake) tested the drives he was selling and said he would refund the buyers. There have been quite a number of USB flash drives listed recently with similarly suspect packaging. A number of UK sellers who listed USB flash drives with this sort of packaging tested their drives and removed them from sale before there were any bids when ebayers alerted them that the packaging was suspect. Some didn’t. If you bought a flash drive with similar packaging you should test it with the free program h2testw immediately.

UK seller kizzakizkiri99 (an ebay member since 6th May 2008 with a feedback score of 2) suddenly listed at least 10 suspect drives with similar packaging. Here are pictures of the flash drives from kizzakizkiri99 with suspect packaging:

You may notice some similarities! Seller gnmv68 thought the flash drives were ok and didn’t pay much attention to the warnings at first. When this seller actually tested them properly they were shown to be fake. The same mistake was made by kizzakizkiri99 who is busy sorting out the mess and is proving to be honourable by refunding the buyers.
SELLERS – DO NOT TRUST THE OPERATING SYSTEM TO GIVE YOU AN ACCURATE REPORT OF DRIVE CAPACITY – TEST DRIVES WITH H2TESTW BEFORE YOU LIST THEM FOR SALE.
