Ebay seller alerted that 120GB Sony flash drive is fake

Thankfully some ebay sellers take heed of warnings from members about fake flash items. Here is an example:
An ebayer who spotted a fake 120GB Sony flash drive being listed sent the seller a question. The seller posted the question and answer in his listing:

Q: Not a real 120GB see: http://fakeflashnews.totalh.com/2009/01/09/guide-on-fake-sony-32gb-64gb-120gb-360gb-500gb-micro-vault-usb-flash-drives-published-by-fakeflashnews/ 18-Feb-09
A: Hi there … seems i may have been sold some fake goods then! We are investigating the capacity etc and authenticity with the suppliers and the site that you’ve directed me to. Thank you! At least I bought them via paypal so will get my money back, hopefully! Thanks again! I’ve made sure that everyone can see our discussion by ticking the box to allow it …

The ebayer later got the following two messages from the seller:

Well, I’m just pleased that you found our listing and informed us about the issues … If the problems that the Internet are highlighting are true, then, you’ve saved us from bad feedback and problems with customers data …. I’ve contacted our suppliers, we bought via Escrow, so, we should be covered, together with Paypal etc … I’m leaving the auction up and reducing the number of days listing if I can, it may help highlight the problem to potential buyers generally?? Am hoping so …. The packaging seems to be the same on all the fake stuff … So, who knows, those that want to be helped will be helped …

Thank you … The last thing we want to do is sell fake stuff ! Not part of the plan ….. We had no idea whatsoever … And am quite shocked, as this is usually a good supplier. As soon as we’ve completed testing I’ll reword the ebay ad informing people of our conclusions, may as well use the listing to some good as we’ve paid for it! I’ve already reduced it down to 5 days just to get the message out, in case there are other listings with the same photo’s … Again, thanks! Great to have people who actually give a damn on ebay! Good work! Then, we’ll try to get our money back … Should be fun! We’ll see if Paypal does what it says it does !! Here’s hoping!

The ebayer asked if the drives were bought on dhgate com and got this reply:

Hi there .. No wasn’t DHGate … It was TradeTang. We’ll see what happens … Don’t you just hate it … Wouldn’t be so bad if the devices actually did what they said, but the fact that peoples data could be lost, that’s the worst! Who cares if they’re not really Sony, as long as they do the job …. Hey ho … We’ll see how this unfolds and put messages up in our auction as we go. Try to spread the word so others don’t get caught out on either end, buyers or sellers …

  1. Hi I just had a thank-you message from an ebay seller who I warned about the drives he or she was listing. Wish more of them would pay attention!
