Hong Kong eBay Fake USB Flash Drives – MP Players – Counterfeit Ring

SOSFakeFlash asks what is so special about 935 Choi Ping House at Choi Yuen Estate in Sheung Shui, N.T., Hong Kong? It is the place many fake usb flash drives and MP Players are mailed from to unsuspecting eBay members. The FrankenFlash Project has been monitoring for a long time. Four ebay seller id’s all have something in common, a person by the name of Yu zhikang. The common eBay seller id’s are: fox.town, chaiching28, davidtam000,i.t.smart_electronic . There could be more id’s involved.

To assist the Technology Crime Prevention Uni in Hong Kong we invite them to inspect:

and ask that they do drop by to visit Yu zhikang to inspect his merchandise. We are sure they will find it very interesting to have Yu zhikang demonstrate how these fake flash items can deceive.

For the curious here is the mystery location:

  1. It’s flash based memory that is the big problem, this should not be an issue with a wi-fi dongle as far as I am aware as they do not usually include flash memory for storing files.

  3. Apparently, Yu zhikang is still at it. However, his new scam is fake Hello Kitty soft toys advertised on eBay as genuine Sanrio products. One I purchased in December 2011 arrived in a mailing envelope with the same Choi Ping House return address. However, the Paypal payee’s name and return address on the China Post mailing label are different. The toy I received is pure junk and the seller might have disappeared. His eBay store is suddenly empty.

  4. Hi Randy,
935 Choi Ping House eh? Gosh that rings bells – if I am not mistaken this was the return adress for one of the fake flash drives I bought around 18 months ago that led to this blog being set up!!

  5. If you purchased from a website such as bigflash.com you do not get the same buyer protection as an ebay purchased.

This is Paypal view – As stated in our User Agreement, the claims process only applies to the shipment of goods. It does not apply to complaints about the attributes or quality of goods
    received.

    An internet also shows

    Seller’s Name: wu dongchu
Shenzhen Flash Drive Industry and Trade Company
    Ship From:
    Yuzhikang
    935 Choi Ping House
    Choi Yuen Estate
    Sheung Shui, default

  6. To se,
There is lots of advice on getting refunds from paypal or through your credit card company on the sosfakeflash blog. They try to wriggle out of fulfiling their buyer protection claims so determination is needed!

  10. Hi John,

We think that the Hong Kong police are actually trying to take action against this type of fraud – things we have seen recently strongly suggest that they are clamping down!

However the police (in any country) don’t make their investigations too public and (sadly) it all takes time!! If only they could just rush in and arrest all the fraudsters tomorrow it would be great.

However, the police need to gather evidence carefully first and avoid the possibility of releasing information that could lead to a criminal trial being jeopardised.

There are members of our team who are former journalists – journalists would dearly like the police to reveal more – but the police have to be careful about releasing information befofe a prosecution – otherwise the prosecution could fail!

  11. I have sent complaint to Hong Kong Police. I received and tested a fraudulent 128GB Kingston ($79.00). It was really a 4GB drive according to test software h2testw_1.4. This criminal website is now: http://bigflashdrive.com/

They are still in business at:
    Ship From:
    Yuzhikang (Lea)
    935 Choi Ping House
    Choi Yuen Estate
    Sheung Shui, default
    HONG KONG

Why won’t HK Police shut them down?

  12. Hi peggylea

We are inclined to think it is won’t rather than can’t and suspect that profit is at the heart of the matter.

  17. Thanks for that sosfakeflash – I think that it has become clear that this is the address used for many fraudster ID’s on Ebay. I have in front of me two envelopes with this identical address.

One was from chaiching 28, the other from it.smart-electronic. Both have an idenical stamp KEN in the brackets after YU zhikang.

We have the evidence – so when are the fraudsters going to be shut down for good??
