Fighting flash fraud on Ebay

The authors of this blog want to elimnate flash fraud on Ebay

Is ebay seller wildrx3 a rich person subsidising purchases?

with 3 comments

wildrx3 Would you buy brand new items for over 100 Australian dollars then list them on ebay with a start price of under a dollar each? If the 64GB Kingston USB flash drives being sold by wildrx3 are genuine then the seller must be a rich philanthropist who is willing to risk making a large loss. We suspect not. We think that the seller has been shopping in the orient an purchased counterfeit drives that look like the real Kingston superficially but (assuming the fraudsters remembered to put a flash chip in them at all) will have a very small real capacity. We suggest the seller tests them with h2testw.

Report in to sosfakeflash if your testing confirms you have a false capacity device.

  1. We suspect the comment from nobby is fake – possibly from the seller. Either that or the buyer has not yet saved enough files to exceed the 4GB capacity (maximum) we think this flash drive has. If you bought a flash drive from a seller we listed as suspect and the drive proves to be genuine we expect you to give the following in support of your seller:
    Seller’s ebay ID
    Seller’s email address
    Item number
    Date of purchase
    Purchase price
    Your ebay ID
    Your email address
This information will not be published – only your comment (once the claim that the drive is genuine can be verified). In future where a seller hides buyer IDs your comment will simply be deleted as fake without investigation. Hiding buyer ID’s has been shown as a fairly sure indicator of fraud.

  2. I have examined the photo presented by the seller. I had to enlarge it. IF this is the photo taken by the seller and shown on ebay, it is indeed a fake.

Can you guess what the tell tail sign is?
