A genuine 16GB flash drive being sold in a private auction??

leave a comment »

We suspect that the flash drives from jono_1223 may be fake. Why else would seller jono_1223 be using private auctions? If you bought one you should test it immediately with h2testw.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

Suspect 64GB flash drives sold on Ebay France by leeseowon84

leave a comment »

64leeseowon84 We strongly suspect that the 64GB USB flash drive pictured here is fake capacity and that anyone who bought one will eventually start to find that their files become lost or corrupt. Why do we think this?

Two reasons – firstly we saw the same drive listed in the UK and it turned out to be fake. Secondly the seller of this item; leeseowon84, a member in France, also sold the same model but “128GB” – there is no such thing as a 128B USB flash drive! We think the seller got these from Chinese fraudsters. Probably from the same fraudulent wholesaler that duped our UK seller.

If you bought one you should test it immediately with h2testw – you are at grave risk of losing your files!

Report in to sosfakeflash if your testing confirms you have a false capacity device.

New ebayer based in China selling suspect 16GB flash drive

with 2 comments

hotmail1024
We think this item from new ebay seller hotmail1024 is likely to be fake capacity as we have not come across any genuine 16GB drives of this model. All have been much lower capacities with control chips programmed to fool the operating system (and therefore the user) into seeing them as 16GB. If this is fake capacity buyers will eventually lose all their files. If you bought one of these we strongly suggest you test with h2testw before you use it. If it proves to be a fake please report in with your test results, seller ID, your ID and item number so that your results can be confirmed and added to the sosfakeflash database. Any additional information you can provide such as sender address on the envelope would assist in our investigations.

Report in to sosfakeflash if your testing confirms you have a false capacity device.
