UK ebayer sells counterfeit 16GB Sony flash drive

with one comment

UK ebay seller shirin290 has sold a number of Sony items we consider suspect – the one above is more than suspect it is certainly a counterfeit. This flash drive carries the Sony brandname Vaio – this name is only ever used for laptops, never for flash drives so we know without a doubt that this is fake fake fakity fake.

The flash drive shown in the ebay listing below from shirin290 looks like the real thing, but is it?? The real one retails for £89.99 in Sony stores, shirin 290 listed this at auction with a start price of £5.00. Given that the one in the lisiting at the top of this post is certainly counterfeit we suspect that this and other Sony items from this seller are also fakes that will cause file loss and data corruption.

As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Report in to SOSFakeFlash if your testing confirms you have a false capacity device.

  1. Checking over feedback left for this seller I see ebay were completely aware this seller sells counterfeits.

On the 15th September a buyer left the following negative feedback:

“FAKE item & Packaging, Ebay reimbursed and told me to destroy the item.BEWARE”

This seller is still listing the exact same drive. Ebay sits back and waits for the money to roll in.
