Suspect ebay listings for 32GB Transcend SD memory card

with 13 comments

We strongly suspect the 32GB Transcend memory cards listed on ebay by powerstar88 will prove to be counterfeit and fake capacity. As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Report in to SOSFakeFlash if your testing confirms you have a false capacity device.

We have had some information from a buyer which seems to confirm our suspicions about this seller. The buyer says:

“The picture they use in the ebay listing is from Transcend USA so it’s the actual picture. I got a memory error in my camera, then I looked closer at the card. The printing on the label is not professional quality. The vendor on ebay is powerstar 88, who suprisingly is a powerseller with 2232 transactions and a 99% feedback rating.

I contacted Transcend USA and they told me about the color transitions at the top of the card (should be smooth – mine’s not) then asked for the serial number on the back of the card….the card I received has no serial number.”

  1. Dhgate is notorious for fake flash. I feel rather sorry for the poor souls who bought from you and if it was me I would contact the five buyers and tell them they are fake capacity and give a refund. Some poor sould could lose something precious like a wedding video.

  4. Thanks for the information. I almost bidded on this card while I’m reading your post. Now I think this one is also a fake card from the eBay seller checkmeout88. It looks just like a Transscend card but no brand.

  6. I spent a few days for keep re-formating the TRAN SCEND 32GB SDHC MEMORY CARD CLASS 6 since it kept failing to record large files. Only after finding this web site, I came to realize that it is a counterfeit product. I checked Transcend website and found that there is no serial number on my card and that I was deceived. I was lucky to receive a refund through Paypal after all. The seller on eBay was “Powerstar88” and I trusted them as they were a power seller. They asked me though to return the item on my expense to China, although it was sent to me from Hong Kong. Strange! Thank you very much for all the information that convinced me of this fraud. I am sure to be more careful when shopping on eBay next time. Cheers!

  7. I should thank to whom had sent me those WARNING Emails about the fake SD merchandise and thank you of your works. I also read all of other’s conversations starts from here It’s nightmare to buyers, the inportant thing is those SDHC cards work in a part of its memmory but buyer may never use it in fullscale then may not detect the rest of its memmory can not be R/W but in its property always shows 32G or 31.2G or 27G available… etc…and months later to find out is too late to complaint or for full refund after 7-12 days as seller’s had mentioned.

What I think is how to make all of your WARNING links available when netters do search on Google, Bing, Yahoo and those Fake + Suspect fake merchandises will show more on screen to warn, that’s what I missed before I enter to the prey trap.

Yesterday, I went to local Frys store to buy another 32G SDHC, much safer to exchange if things go wrong.

  8. Hi EN242

I am glad you got a quick refund and hope you will join us in our efforts to rid ebay of the fake flash plague.

Back when the frankenflash project started buyers hardly ever got refunds. Thanks to the hard work of those founding members I was lucky enough to get refunds for the fakes I bought last year.

At that time refunds (let alone quick ones) were rare. It was thanks to the information I read on the sosfakeflash blog – the first one set up, that I realised the flash drives I bought might be fake.

The sosfakeflash blog had been newly launched by the frankenflash project around the time I bought my fakes. It was thanks to what I learned from that blog that I probably got the fastest refunds on record at that time.

I was so grateful to the project and so angry about the sale of such items that I have been working with the project ever since.

It is our continued efforts that have made it so much easier for buyers to get quick refunds now.

If every single victim had done as I did and joined in he effort then maybe there would be no fake flash drives on ebay by now – so nobody would have to be claiming refunds!

Please folks – if you are a victim of fake flash (as all of us who run these blogs and do other work to combat the problem were) join in and help us!

  10. Hi again EN4242,

The link you provided to the ebay item did not work so we removed it – but the link to your photos does – the photograhic evidence could prove useful! One of your photos confirms something another buyer said about the colour transition at the top of the card not matching with genuine transcend cards. Many thanks for this!

  13. I bought one from this ebay by powerstar88 and got too many error Read/Write to this Transend 32G SDHC

The package is not heated seal, made for easy to open to put the fake one in.

Seems the real Transend card has yellow lock tab on left side, the faked one I bought is white lock tab. This card has no serial # but gold seal decal on the back and property label as CANON, format 16FAT (weird)

Using the download SD test program, for this 32G, mine got 3G read/write verified, the rest of 28G is ERROR. I made a mistake to buy this 32G SDHC from ebay/powerstar88 HONGKONG

DO NOT BUY this Transend 32G from ebay/powerstar88

Thanks 4 the WARNING and spread the words

    PS: I paid 59.6$ USD
