We suspect these DataTraveler drives on ebay were counterfeit

leave a comment »

Seller ultimate_memory (an ebay member in the USA) has sold six of these flash drives. We suspected they were counterfeit and fake capacity. It seems we were right. A member of our team contacted Kingston about this seller and listings were removed by ebay (probably as a result of pressure from Kingston)

The six buyers who bought from this seller before listings were remove should check the serial numbers with Kingston (if they have receive this counterfeit flash drive) and put in a paypal claim immediately. If a buyer has not yet received their counterfeit they should get in touch with ebay – as ebay removed listings they know the item is fake and should ensure that buyers get a refund.

Due to the sterling efforts of members of our team many fraudsters who listed fake Kingston items have had items removed from ebay (and in some cases been booted off ebay altogether) over the last few months. However, our team is small and we need victims to help out! If you bought a fake flash memory item on ebay please try to warn other victims!

As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Report in to SOSFakeFlash if your testing confirms you have a false capacity device.
