Ebay member in France lists 128GB DT 150 – counterfeit!

As Kingston do not make the DataTraveler 150 model of flash drive in 128GB the flash drives listed by bg-intl must be counterfeits. We expect Kingston will ask ebay to remove them for sale – anyone who bought one should claim a refund immediately. A quick phone call to Kingston will confirm what we are saying about these being counterfeit so there is no excuse for buyers not being refunded.

  1. My informant gets messages to both e-mail account and ebay messages as they are linked.

The e-mail was forwarded to me and also printed off by my informant to keep back as evidence as the informant felt this was a much more serious and deliberate case of intended fraud.

    This seller is being watched.

  2. Well, Traveler,

It seems that the response your ebayer got seems close to an open admission of fraud. Aftere all – if you have to hide a brand name that means the item must be counterfeit.

We wonder what the French police and Kingston would make of this correspondence. It is almost certainly evidence that could be used in a court of law.

Ask your informant to forward the correspondence to their email account an put it in a folder marked “bg-intl fraud” as it could prove useful if a prosecution is brought against this seller.

  3. A concerned ebay member has just been in touch with bg-intl asking about the drives still appearing in the listing for brushcutter blades further down in the scrolling section where sellers can display all items for sale.

This was definitely not the response the ebay member expected:

“It is not totally known what is fake or not fake since Kingston does not sell all of their products in the USA. We did not get the items from Kingston just like we DON’T get our Bowflex Adjustable Dumbells from Bowflex either.
We get all our stuff from the same OEM mfgrs that make these items for the Brand Name company, but we don’t pay the Brand name company for the item so they can take their cut and add it to the price.

Everything made is made in China, period, end of story…

Anyway, they are 128GB though, and for very cheap. We have 128GB and 256GB thumb drives (flash drives, memory stick) but are not selling them just yet. We have to take pictures covering the KINGSTON NAME as we do with our Bowflex when we sell those items, otherwise Ebay’s Trust and Safety Dept. terminates the listing due to Trademark violation.”

  4. The problem that remains is how many ebay members who bought from this French “Knock-off Nigel” will realise? Will these ebay members be mystified about why the item vanished from their won list? We doubt that ebay will tell them – though we live in hope!

  5. “It is hard to determine what is quote–unquote legitimate and to what degree an item is a knock off.”

This seller, the self acclaimed expert on flash drives and their origins, had his fake capacity counterfeit drives removed.

Ebay and Kingston obviously had no problem in determining what was knock off or not, unlike this Nigel.

  6. A concerned ebay member thought the seller should be notified these drives were obvious fake capacity and counterfeit drives. The seller was given the link to the Kingston product page to check the current usb flash drives available and the link to this site and h2testw.

Half expecting the seller to be pleased they have been saved from earning negative feedback and having their reputation ruined, the ebay member was taken aback at the response below.

“these come from China like everything else, and they are made by OEM mfgrs that make them for Kingston, Sony and Sandisk and every other maker of Thumb Drives… they are 128GB…much beyond that we don’t really care. Kingston doesn’t sell many of their products as USA products but still make them for the asian market, example is the DT300 256gb which is available all over asia but not in the USA… It is hard to determine what is quote–unquote legitimate and to what degree an item is a knock off.”

Would you want to buy from a seller with this attitude?
