Ebay member continues listing fakes despite warnings

with 5 comments

scotty_vhs

Ebay member scotty_vhs was warned by at least two other kind ebayers that these were not faulty but counterfeit. At least one of the ebayers pointed out that selling these was illegal and gave the seller advice about getting a refund from the supplier. It seems neither of these members got any response from scotty_vhs.

Apparently scotty_vhs is a rather selfish person whose only concern is trying to get some of the money outlaid on these back and hang the consequences for anyone else. As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Report in to SOSFakeFlash if your testing confirms you have a false capacity device.

  1. Scott,

We do not remove posts, I’m afraid. Our information suggests that you did not voluntarily remove the listings – unfortunatly the member of our team who has most contact with Kingston is not available at the moment. If it turns out that you did remove listings voluntarily and refund any buyers, we will say so.

We are disinclined to think that this was actually the case without some proof. You may have “made your own bed” a bit by ignoring warnings from ebay members. It is not our fault you advertised fakes!!

You did not get any malicious or offensive emails from the owners of this blog. This blog is not malicious in any way – it simply states what we find. We cannot answer for the actions of readers – we have no right of censorship on what members of the public say to you or anyone else in emails!!

  2. Hi,
I removed these items after confirming with Kinston that these were not genuine items.

While I do agree with this sites ultimate goal, I do not agree with the way it achieves it. I have received countless malicious and offensive emails from the owner of this site and its followers.

I would also ask that this article be removed as it is still damaging my reputation several months on even though I did the right thing and removed the item from sale.

Keep up the good work (just reconsider your methods)

    Scott

  3. Despite the best efforts of concerned ebay members this seller still refused to remove the fake capacity counterfeits by choice.

Kingston have made ebay remove the fraudulent listing.

As stated above, this seller had no thought or consideration for anyone except himself. He knew fine these were definite counterfeits, despite his claims otherwise, and was going to continue with the auction until he managed to line his own pockets.

We can all do better without sellers like this on ebay.

  5. Despite pleas from concerned ebay members, this seller refuses to end the auction on these drives.

The seller was advised that it is highly likely these drives will only be bought for the purpose of being sold on as genuine by a fraudulent seller. This in turn will lead to many more unnecessary victims suffering data loss and possible financial loss.

The seller refuses to accept that the drives are counterfeits despite all the evidence staring him in the face. A simple check with Kingston’s online verification would be enough to initially show him the truth.

Here is the reply he gave to one of the concerned ebay members who tried to at first tried to appeal to the seller’s sense of decency, followed up by letting the seller know they could be leaving themselves open to prosecution for breaking several laws as well as breaking ebay rules, possibly resulting in suspension.

“All the allegations you are making against me defrauding people and illegally sending items through the post are based on your opinion that these drives
are counterfeit. I don’t know how you can tell that without having the actual drives.
With regards to the fraud charges, these drives are clearly described as faulty. I cant see how that is fraud, as the bidders agree to the terms of
    the auction when they bid.

I have described these items in a completely honest way and am not forcing people to bid. Neither am I leading them to believe they are working drives. I
have emailed eBay to ensure that I am within their regulations and am waiting for their reply.”
