Fighting flash fraud on Ebay

The authors of this blog want to elimnate flash fraud on Ebay

Yet another gremlin selling fake USB flash drives on ebay

gremlin2sA gremlin ID registered by one of the fraud gangs in China xinjiyuanwang1682008 offers the fraudsters’ favourite leather model and DataTraveler 150 drives at 64GB.

We are certain every single flash drive from this seller will prove to be fake capacity. The DataTraveler ones will of course also be counterfeit, as a quick phone call to Kingston will no doubt confirm.

As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Report in to SOSFakeFlash if your testing confirms you have a false capacity device.

  1. There have been two follow up feedbacks stating these are fakes and one negative feedback too.

With 17 sold, it is only a matter of time before others see this feedback and hopefully get this seller suspended.

Anyone who has bought from this seller, please test with h2testw and send in results so an alert can be issued. Please feel free to leave a comment here. Your input is welcome.

  2. One buyer has confirmed what was already known about any drive listed by this seller.

    They are counterfeits.

The use of follow-up feedback by this thoughtful buyer will hopefully help alert others and act as a guide for others to check before leaving their feedback.

If more buyers who discovered their drives were counterfeits and/or fake capacity used the follow-up feedback option instead of just scurrying away with their refunds and the “I’m alright Jack” attitude, many more people would be spared going through loss of data and the devastation it can cause.

Thank you to this buyer for their selfless act in trying to help others.
