Another ebay seller in Australia with suspect Kingston flash drive

with 2 comments

We are pretty sure that the 64gb Kingston DT100 USB flash drives sold by cantareballare (registered on ebay Australia) are counterfeit and fake capacity.

If we are right then buyers will find that their data vanishes altogether or becomes corrupted after a while. Serial numbers for all genuine high capacity Kingston flash drives can be checked with the company either by phone or through their online verification system. We do not think they will verify these.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report in to SOSFakeFlash if your testing confirms you have purchased a false capacity device on ebay.

  2. These drives are definitely counterfeits and fake capacity. Kingston never made these in bigger capacity than 32gb.

A well meaning ebay nember contacted the seller and gave advice and links to Kingston configurator, fighting flash fraud articles on fake DT100’s and the h2testw for the seller to look over to show that the drives were definitely counterfeit.

The seller was also advised to contact the buyers who had already won auctions to let them know the drives were counterfeits.

The reply received was not too pleasant:

“get your feact right before you speeck this device the are been tested . and the are 63.4 gb.this device are factory made and sealed. your should be carefull wath you say. I do not need to contact no buyers becouse the devices are right”

If you have received a counterfeit drive from this seller, please send in results from the h2testw so an alert can be issued.
