512GB USB flash drive listed on ebay by seller in Hong Kong

These 512GB USB flash drives listed by Hong Kong based seller kwh352 are bound to be fake.

As far as we are aware there are no 512GB USB flash drives on sale yet – when this does happen the first ones to appear will be from the big well-known brands. Technical advances are made by the big brands not by no-name manufacturers. Manufacturers of generic items do not have the money to invest in research and development so are very unlikely to be first to market with something.

There is another reason for thinking these are bound to be fake. Though higher capacity chips are under development they are not yet stable enough to be released onto the market. This means that the number of memory chips that would currently be needed to create a 512GB flash drive simply would not fit into a swivel type drive. The same applies with the 128GB swivel type flash drives listed by this seller.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

  1. kenjapon,

You are probably right about big changes made in garages by poor people! An example that springs to mind is reprogramming flash memory items with a capacity of 2GB or less to show a fake capacity of 8GB, 16GB, 32GB or any other number the programmer thinks they might get away with!
