Another gremlin selling fake flash drives on ebay

leave a comment »

gremlin2sfd0rt86Seller fd0rt86 is no longer a regisered user – we assume that ebay realised that this gremlin was selling fake 64GB USB flash drives.

We came across listings for the three models shown on the right on the USA site – all will corrupt users’ files once the true capacity is exceeded.

If you bought from this seller test your item immediately and claim a refund through paypal if (as expected) it is fake.

We advise everyone to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Report in to SOSFakeFlash if your testing confirms you have a false capacity device.

Fake 32GB USB flash drive in private ebay auction

leave a comment »

starflashxx

Seller starflashxx uses private auctions to try and hide the fake flash memory being sold on ebay. We strongly advise people to avoid private auctions – generally a sign of fraud where flash memory is concerned. The flash drive pictured is a fake that will corrupt users’ files.

We have evidence that starflashxx sold fake SD memory cards – an alert on the seller was issued on these at sosfakeflash on November 11th. This seller also offers MP3/4 players – we expect they are also fake capacity items that will trash users’ pictures, video and music.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Fake Sony flash drives listed on ebay by member in the USA

luis_lucas

These 240GB Sony flash drives listed by luis_lucas are fake fake fakity fake. USB flash drives (the kind you can put on a lanyard or keyring) are not made by ANYONE in 240GB capacity – only hard drives – which wouldn’t exactly look dainty hanging round your neck! Sony do not supply USB flash drives of capacities over 16GB.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Seller in the USA lists a range of fake flash drives on ebay

Above are pictures of the models of fake flash drive listed for sale on ebay USA by seller jjat1677. The flash drive on the far left is a fake 64GB Sony – not made by Sony and not 64GB. The second drive from the left is not 240GB – there are no Kingston 240GB USB flash drives!! In fact no one makes pen drives of this capacity.

Two out of the three drives in the next picture are the wrong colour for 128GB Kingston DataTraveler drives – so all will be fake. The final picture on the right shows a drive listed as a 32GB Sony Vaio – the name Vaio is used only for laptops not for flash drives and the biggest flash drives offered by Sony are only 16GB!

This seller obviously went shopping in fake flash land. Had jjat1677 done some basic research by looking at the Sony and Kingston websites to find out what was actually available then he or she would not have fallen into the clutches of a fraudulent supplier.

Please sellers! DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE BUYING FLASH MEMORY TO SELL ON EBAY!!

Yet another 128GB Kingston sold at below cost on ebay

sales.cookiesplus

You may be wondering how it is that ebay sellers like sales.cookiesplus manage to sell 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 USB flash drives so much cheaper than approved Kingston outlets. The reason is that they are counterfeit and fake capacity items that will corrupt users’ files.

Genuine DT 200 flash drives have individual serial numbers that can be verified with Kingston. The vast majority sold on ebay will not be verifiable because they are fakes – not made by Kingston and not 128GB!

There are numerous wholesale outlets supplying counterfeits that contain small capacity memory chips programmed to fool the operating sysem into reporting the drive as having 128GB capacity. Such drives corrupt users’ data.

Many ebayers buy from these fraudulent wholesalers without realising that what they will be selling is fake. This is because most people don’t realise the true cost of flash memory. Often they are paying the wholesaler less than it would cost to manufacture the memory chips alone, let alone the other components of a flash drive. This was probably the case with sales.cookiesplus.

This is not the case when it comes to the vast majority of ebay sellers from China – they know full well that what they are selling is fake. They work in organised gangs and when one ID is suspended by ebay for this fraud they simply pop up with a different one!

We advise everyone to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

This leather look 32GB USB flash drive is a classic fake which always corrupts users’ files once the true capacity (usually less than 4GB) is exceeded.

As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Another Singapore seller with fraudsters’ favourite on ebay

leave a comment »

beauty.and.her.storeSeller beauty.and.her.store is yet another devious fraudster based in Singapore. The flash drive on the left is a well known fake sold in false capacities from 4GB to 128GB. All will corrupt files.

This seller listed this 16GB one only in Singapore so that fraudster friends could snap them up and leave false positives without anything exchanging hands.

No money paid, no flash drives were sent – the transactions were completely fake. The seller then promply stopped listing.

We advise everyone to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.
