The authors of this blog want to elimnate flash fraud on Ebay

We suspect this 8GB DataTraveler on ebay will turn out to be fake

We wonder why (if these 8GB DataTraveler flash drives are genuine) seller yyshop88 makes no mention of the Kingston name in the listing. Kingston is a well respected brand producing extremely reliable flash memory items.

We suspect the reason is that members of the fightflashfraud team alerted Kingston to the fact that many fake Kingston items were being sold on ebay. Since then, Kingston has made ebay remove many listings for flash memory that mention the Kingston brand because they were counterfeit.

Many sellers of fake flash memory that destroys users’ files now avoid using brand names in their listings, though pictures still often give away the fact that they are replicas. The author of this post has used Kingston flash drives for years without problems – until the day a fake capacity counterfeit (a replica – not made by Kingston) bought on ebay arrived through the post!!

We strongly advise everyone not to buy “bargain price” Kingston flash drives (or indeed any flash memory item whatsover) on ebay – over 90% of them are fakes that will corrupt your data.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.
