Very strange listings from an ebay member in Germany

leave a comment »

An ebay member in Germany guenstig-007 has very strange listings for the item shown on the left. The picture shows the most obvious type of fake USB flash drive possible. There are three things that indicate this is fake:

1) The packaging
2) The model – every one that looks like this which we tested with h2tesw proved to be fake
3) The shiny little capacity sticker

Seller guenstig-007 appears to claim in listings that these passed testing with h2testw and have a capacity of 32GB – somehow we don’t think so! This leads us to suspect that this is likely to be a case of deliberate fraud. Anyone who bought one should test it with h2tesw – we are sure it won’t pass the test!! We are pretty certain the USB flash drives sold by guenstig-007 will corrupt files.

The seller listed a number at auction and has one longer-running buy it now listing, item number 260535323646 – we think that guenstig-007 is heading for the fraudster database!

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.
