64GB USB flash drive on ebay USA will undoubtedly corrupt files

with one comment

This leather and steel type USB flash drive always turns out to be fake capacity leading to file loss and corruption. Seller enjoymall79 obviously bought from a fraudulent supplier.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

  1. I bought a supposed Kingston DataTraveller 150 64GB USB stick on ebay in late Nov ’09. What arrived 4 weeks after purchase from the eBay seller surprised me – a fake 64gb memory stick that looked exactly like a Kingston DataTraveller 150 memory stick with the same colors and texture. Hmmmm….

I had paid by Paypal and later received a shipping tracking number from the eBay seller with a 25 rating and no negatives. Several days later after the item shipped, eBay emailed and said the transaction was immediately cancelled by eBay and they would not disclose the reason for the cancellation. The seller name was removed from eBay and I filed for $25 purchase price reimbursement since the transaction was within the eBay 45 day limit. eBay refunded my money within 1 week.

Out of curiosity, I loaded the 64gb memory stick on a PC and it came up as 64gb – but I strongly suspected it was fake based on eBay’s actions. I tried to WinXP re-format the memory stick as a test. The fake USB drive seemed to pass the WinXP Quickformat, but failed under a full format attempt.

I now have a token example of why eBay purchases for offshore computer electronics should be avoided. The bad eBay seller got burned for the costs of making a fake memory USB stick, paid the overseas s/h/p cost and did not get my payment that was withdrawn by eBay.
