UK ebay seller lists discontinued model of Kingston flash drive

leave a comment »

We thought this 16GB Kingston USB flash drive listed by asia22joanna on ebay seemed a little on the cheap side so we had a quick look at the Kingston website and found that the DT400 is a discontinued model so there are two possible explanations for the price. Either:
1) They have come from a wholesale outlet clearing out old stock, in which case they will be genuine.
2) They came from a fraudulent wholesaler and are fakes which will corrupt files.

All we can say is that these are either a genuine bargain or dangerous counterfeits. Having noticed the listing for 16GB Sony flash drives below from the same seller we are inclined to think that the answer is probably that they are counterfeits from a fraudulent supplier. If they are counterfeits the seller is probably unaware of this and the fact that a counterfeit USB flash drive always corrupts files after a while.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.
