Private ebay auctions on ebay Canada for Kingston DT200 drives

leave a comment »

We think that the Kingston DataTraveler USB flash drives offered in private ebay auctions by kamyal2 are counterfeit and fake capacity. If we are wrong then buyers will be able to verify serial numbers with Kingston. If we are right (and we are sure we are) then Kingston will not verify them. A counterfeit flash drive is also a fake capacity flash drive that corrupts files.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Looks as though this ebayer in Australia shopped in fake flash drive

leave a comment »

We think this 16GB USB flash drive listed on ebay Australia looks highly suspect and will prove to be a fake from China.

There are a huge number of fake capacity flash drives produced in China, some of which are generic ones like this and others of which are copies of brand name items (counterfeits) – either way a fake capacity flash drive corrupts files once the true capacity (usually under 2GB) is exceeded.

There are two things that make us suspect these are fakes – the packaging (which we have seen used for fakes before, though it might sometimes be used for genuine drives) and the little capacity sticker – which we have only ever seen on fake flash drives, never genuine ones.

This brings us to the conclusion that zoea09 bought from one of the many fraudulent wholesale outlets that supply fake capacity flash memory items.

If this is the case the seller may be unaware of the fact that these are almost certainly fakes.

Advice for ebay sellers – please do your research carefully before buying flash memory to sell on ebay. Don’t take it for granted that what is shown by the operating system is correct – if you bought fakes, then it won’t be. Always test flash memory items properly before listing them for sale.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

bid with absolute confidence on this 128GB flash drive on ebay UK!

You can bid with absolute confidence that ebay item number 200444006172 from UK seller pay4les$ is a fake capacity flash drive that corrupts files. It comes as no surprise that pay4les$ is using a private auction in an attempt to hide the fact that this item is fake.

UPDATE 05/04/2010
This seller is now listing these as faulty in private ebay auctions with a 1p start price and says:

Please note I selling item as a faulty and no returns are accepted
The problem is I was unable to play some movies on the Flash drive.
There was no problem opening Microsoft office document and pictures.
Also when you try to copy files with more than a gigabyte at the same time errors sometimes occur.
When I checked the drive windows shows exactly the capacity it has and to be honest I do not know what the exact fault is.

WE CAN TELL THIS SELLER IT IS NOT A FAULT – THE PROBLEM IS THAT IT IS FAKE CAPACITY – A DIGITALLY MANIPULATED DRIVE DESIGNED TO FOOL THE USER INTO THINKING IT IS HIGHER CAPACITY THAN IT IS BY REPORTING A FALSE CAPACITY TO THE OPERATING SYSTEM.

UK seller with fake flash drives in private buy it now sales on ebay

UK ebay seller cheapstockers1010 has been shopping in fake flash land and has listed two very familiar models of fake capacity flash drive for sale. As well as the familiar 128GB leather and steel USB flash drive shown above the seller offers an equally obvious fake – a 64GB Sony Vaio flash drive. There is no such thing as a Sony Vaio flash drive – these were invented by fraudsters in China! A fake flash drive corrupts files.

As the seller is using a dropshipping operation these fakes will come directly from Hong Kong – a hub of fake flash fraud! This means that seller cheapstockers1010 will never clap eyes on the merchandise and has no opportunity to test them. We strongly advise sellers never to drop-ship flash drives, you are almost certain to find yourself selling fakes and are at grave risk of being kicked off ebay as a result.

fake 16GB Sony flash drive listed on ebay Australia

leave a comment »

The 16GB Sony flash drive in this listing was not made by Sony and does not really have a capacity of 16GB. This flash drive is fake capacity – it started life as a 4GB drive before being fraudulently reprogrammed. Like any such fraudulently programmed flash drive it corrupts files. We expect that seller david_3140 will list a couple more fake flash drives on ebay as it seems this ebayer bought this one and at least two others on ebay from a fraudster in China.

Another fraudster in China selling fake flash drives on ebay

Seller ppgo2sell is yet another seller from China with a range of fake capacity flash drives that corrupt files. The model shown in this listing is the fake that has sold on ebay most consistantly for the longest. That must delight the fraud gangs in China as it is the easiest model to program to false capacities to fool the operating system (and thus the user) until the user’s data is lost or corrupted, usually too late for the buyer to claim a refund.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Notorious fake flash drive sold by ebayer in Germany

The flash drive sold in this listing by 321deins-spb on ebay Germany is a notorious fake capacity flash drive that corrupts fakes. We suspect this seller may be involved in dropshipping from Hong Kong as the seller location is Germany but the item location is given as Hong Kong. Never buy flash memory if the seller’s location and item location don’t match – you are almost certain to get a fake that trashes your data.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

4GB Sandisk flash drive on ebay UK seems a little too cheap

leave a comment »

The 4GB USB flash drives listed on ebay UK by kels2you seem a bit on the cheap side which makes us wonder if they came from a fraudulent supplier. A lot of ebay members buy counterfeit flash drives from suppliers in China without realising this. Such flash drives are fake capacity and corrupt files.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

We can say without doubt that the 8GB flash drives listed on ebay Germany by intergain24 are fake capacity – every single one we tested that came in this packaging was. This flash drive corrupts files. The seller may not realise that he or she bought from a fraudulent supplier.

fake flash seller in China uses private ebay listing

Here we have yet another ebay seller of counterfeit and fake capacity flash drives from China. Seller linan-ok is using private listings to assist in getting away with this fraud. This (and any other) flash drive from this seller corrupts files.

Looks like this ebay seller in Canada shopped in fake flash land

We would be stunned if the Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drives auctioned on ebay Canada by liliblue2010 turned out to be genuine (buyers can verify serial numbers for genuine ones with Kingston) – we think this seller purchase from a fraudulent supplier. If we are right then this USB flash drive is counterfeit and fake capacity. A fake capacity flash drive corrupts files. The seller may be unaware these are likely to be fakes.

We don’t think this flash drive on ebay was made by Kingston

leave a comment »

We can find no trace of this model of flash drive on the Kingston website which leads us to conclude that they do not make this. Seller 86cunzhang has listed an 8GB flash drive like this on ebay Australia (item number 270531758901).

We can only conclude that this ebay ID is yet another belonging to one of the fraud gangs in China and that this USB flash drive is fake capacity and corrupts files.

More fake flash drives from China on ebay

This ebay listing by znhwy pictures the Kingston DT200 flash drive but the description says it is a “64GB Black Leather Stainless Steel Flash Drive”. Will buyers get the flash drive pictured or the one described? We don’t know but what we are sure of is that they will get a fake capacity flash drive that corrupts files.
