Fighting flash fraud on Ebay

The authors of this blog want to elimnate flash fraud on Ebay

Another ebay seller in China with counterfeit Kingston DT 200

The 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drives from ebay seller shibo201088 are counterfeit. A counterfeit flash drive is a fake capacity flash drive and it corrupts files. This ID no doubt belongs to a familiar fraud gang.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash

memory on ebay.

  1. Hi, Fuel Can Charlie,

You are absolutely right in saying that you cannot buy a genuine USB flash drive above 16GB at this price in the UK.

Most of the fake 128GB Kingston flash drives actually only have a capacity of 512GB!

It amazes us that so many people buy flash drives advertised as over 16GB on ebay at ludicrously low prices when they actually have no real need for flash drives of such capacities.

If a buyer really needed flash drives of capacities above 4GB they would know within a week or two of the flash drive arriving if they had a fake as (generally) files would have started to vanish or been corrupted by the time they saved 4GB of files to it!

Please do whatever you can to warn others!

  2. Confirmed. Drive is so cheap that it won’t even run h2testw to completion. Shows about 3GB usable capacity with abysmal transfer speeds.

Wish I’d discovered this site before buying. Will try to educate others so that they don’t fall for the same scam.

BTW the best capacity available for that price in the UK is 16GB. 128GB is available for about £200.
