32GB Kingston DT150 flash drives on ebay from losqboss1979 suspect

leave a comment »

UK ebay seller losqboss1979 has auctioned a number of these 32GB Kingston DataTraveler 150 USB flash drives and will almost certainly have made a loss on sales if they are genuine. We don’t think they are genunine – we think they are counterfeit and fake capacity.

Why? Because losqboss1979 has also sold other models of flash drive including the notorious leather and steel type which is always fake capacity and corrupts files. It seems this seller bought from one of the fraudulent wholesalers suppling fake flash memory items.

komp_bay lists suspect Sandisk flash drive on ebay, test with h2testw

with 12 comments

In this private ebay listing seller komp_bay gives the item location in the UK but the seller is registered in the USA. The picture did not look right to us so we checked the Sandisk web site. It appears we were right in being suspicious, the Titanium type flash drive does not seem to be made in black and the lowest capacity appears to be 4GB not 1GB. This makes us think that this flash drive is likely to be counterfeit and a counterfeit USB flash drive is normally fake capacity and corrupts files.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

cuthbert2k7 auctions fake Sony Vaio USB flash drives on ebay

with one comment

This USB flash drive listed on ebay by cuthbert2k7 is fake capacity and corrupts files. There is no such thing as a genuine Sony Vaio flash drive – these are fakes invented by fraudsters in China. It seems that cuthbert2k7 realised there was a problem with the flash drives listed and has listed everything as faulty. They are not faulty – the problem is caused by the fact that they are fraudulently programmed to report a false capacity to the operating system.

This seller has also listed another obvious fake model that is very familiar; the leather and steel type beloved by every fraud gang for its ease of programming to false capacities and it’s visual appeal to customers. We assume this seller bought from a fraudulent supplier in China, therefore all flash memory items from cuthbert2k7 will be fake capacity and will corrupt files after a while. This is not a fault!
