128GB DT200 flash drives sold on ebay by tivilorio are counterfeit

with 6 comments

This 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 USB flash drive sold on ebay by tivilorio is counterfeit and fake capacity, which corrupts files. This ebayer obviously bought from one of the fraudulent wholesale outlets supplying fake flash memory.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

UPDATE 27/05/10
We suggest that visitors to this post who bought one of these ignore the comments from Franz and check the serial number of their flash drive with Kingston. If the 128GB flash drives from tivilorio are (as Franz suggests) genuine, then Kingston will be able to verify your serial number.

We don’t think so!!

If they are genuine then tivilorio lost a huge amount of money on the sales – probably running into a couple of thousand euros. We doubt that anyone would continue selling at such a loss and are wondering if Franz and tivilorio might not be one and the same person!!

If Kingston say they can’t verify the serial number of your flash drive then it is pretty certain that you have a fake. Testing with h2testw will reveal the true capacity of your drive – which we suspect is 4GB or less.

  1. Well Franz, we are amazed as we don’t see how tivilorio could have sold genuine 128GB flash drives at that price.

  3. Hi Franz,

Don’t know what went wrong before but we’ve found tivilorio again now, not selling at the moment. We can’t see how tivilorio could possibly have sold genuine DT200 flash drives at the prices they went for and one buyer mentions data disappearing – a sure sign of a fake. If they were genuine the seller lost over 1000 euros by selling them at a loss.

Did you check the serial number with Kingston? Sometimes the fraudsters in China who make these are a bit more cunning than usual and give the drives serial numbers, but they are duplicates. Did your drive from tivilorio pass testing with h2testw?
