ebayer largegreencarrot sells fake 128GB Kingston DT200 on ebay

The 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 USB flash drives in this ebay listing from largegreencarrot are certain to be counterfeit and fake capacity, no doubt purchased from a fraudulent wholesale outlet in China. They are far too cheap to be genuine – you’d be very lucky to get a genuine 32GB flash drive at this price. A fake capacity USB flash drive corrupts files.

Suspect ebay listing for 128GB DT200 flash drives from laceupboots0

leave a comment »

We find this listing in which ebay member laceupboots0 offers two 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 USB rather suspect. The seller tells us they are in unopened packaging and were unwanted gifts. We’re not so sure! If these are genuine (and our suspicions were unfounded) then buyers will be able to verify the serial numbers with Kingston.

If Kingston cannot verify the serial numbers then our suspicion that these are counterfeit, fake capacity and will corrupt files is correct. Counterfeit flash memory items are always fake capacity, and fake capacity flash memory corrupts files once the true capacity (mostly no more than 4GB) is exceeded.

We think the USB flash drive in this picture is fake capacity and corrupts files and that ebayer 2804aniab bought them from a fraudulent wholesale outlet in China. A lot of ebay sellers fall into this trap because they are unaware of the true cost of flash memory items.

UPDATE 12/07/2010
This seller went on after selling several in auctions (at below wholesale) to sell two of these drives in a buy it now listing at £200 (item number 170494898614) yet not a single buyer seems to have left a negative comment about these fake capacity counterfeits which corrupt files.

However, ebay finally noticed item number 170500533441 – another listing for this fake – and removed the item from the site. At least 5 were sold before the listing was removed. Did ebay contact any of the 4 victims who left positive feedback we wonder?
