ebayer mrx670 selling fake 128GB flash drives which corrupt data

leave a comment »

The USB flash drives in this ebay listing from mrx670 do not really have a capacity of 128GB and it seems that the seller knows it. The seller states:

128gb by sowftware not hardware . very good condation i hve qty. of 15

If you don;t understand what this means we will make it clear. Hardware is the actual flash memory chips. Software is the programming of the control chip which reports capacity to the operating system. So by software not hardware means the control chip reports 128GB to the operating system but the flash memory chips can’t actually store this much data. In simple terms, fake capacity which corrupts files.

The seller has also listed equally fake 128GB Kingston DT 200 flash drives. Buy a flash drive from mrx670
at your peril!

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

16134834 lists obvious fake 256GB Kingston flash drive on ebay

leave a comment »

The USB flash drive pictured in this ebay listing from 16134834 is not a genuine 256GB Kingston DataTraveler. The real one looks nothing like this, it is an entirely different model. What is pictured is a counterfeit copy of the now discontinued DT100 model which was never made in this capacity. Seller 16134834 obviously bought these from a fraudulent supplier, no doubt in China. This USB flash drive is not only counterfeit but also fake capacity and as a result it corrupts files.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

UPDATE 04/07/2010
Seller 16134834 aparently refunded an ebayer who bought one of the fakes shown in the listing above – however it seems that this seller has not fully understood the nature of the flash drives from his or her supplier as ebay listing number 180528175576 demonstrates. There is no such thing as upgrading a flash drive – it is a misnomer for programming it to a fake capacity:

The seller says in this listing:

IMPORTANT NOTICE
PLEASE READ!
This product is **UPGRADED** from 64GB.

What does this mean? This means the manufacturer has taken the 64GB Kingston USB Flash Drive and upgraded the capacity to 256GB.
Before purchasing, please know that you may experience transfer problems with larger files, such as DVD’s, films and blu-rays.
Generally, songs, documents, photos and any other files under 10-15MB do not encounter problems.
I do not want to cheat you, the buyer, from your money, so please consider what use you will have for this product. If you plan to store large files like films, dvds, blu-rays etc, please do not purchase this product.

Only purchase if you have a need to store large amounts of smaller files, like songs, documents and pictures.

Of course, I am more than happy to answer any questions you have, and I do offer refunds if the product does not do what you want it to.
With this knowledge, the product still enables the purchaser a way to store huge quantities of songs, pictures or documents.

We think it highly unlikely that the real capacity of these fakes is anywhere near 64GB – 64 megabytes maybe! Otherwise why would the seller seem to advise that only files under 15 megabytes do not encounter problems. Looks to us as though these are really bad fakes if they can’t even save a 1GB file!!

qq1478963 – another untrustworthy flash memory seller on ebay

We would not use a flash drive supplied by ebay seller qq1478963 even if it was given to us free of charge. Why? Because, although unlike the most obvious listings for fake flash drives this seller’s offering is not at a ludicrously low price, the seller has deviously given the location of this item (in ebay listing number 250647549338) as Frankfurt, Germany although the seller is in fact located in Hong Kong.

Would you buy a flash drive from someone who lies? Nobody in our team would trut our valuable data to a flash memory item from someone who is obviously devious. We think that this will prove to be yet another fake capacity USB flash drive that corrupts files.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Would you want to buy an important bit of kit that you are going to entrust your valuable data (college assignments or whatever) to someone who tried to lie about where they are? No? Then don’t buy USB flash drives from devious ebay seller sqlbin who is pretending items are in the UK but of course they are not – they are where the seller is – in China. Any USB flash drive sold by sqlbin is certain to be fake capacity and corrupts files.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

beware mayberry_van, a devious ebay flash memory seller in China

The 16GB USB flash drives in the ebay listing above from ebay seller mayberry_van would be a good buy if they were not fake capacity ones that corrupt files being sold by a devious seller in China.

However, at a buy it now price of £26.99 the 32GB SD cards (shown left) are just a bit too cheap to be true so these are more obvious fakes. Be warned! Flash memory items from ebay seller mayberry_van will trash your files!

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.
