Return of proven fake flash fraudster cymemory to selling on ebay

leave a comment »

We were aware of fraudulent ebay seller cymemory before this blog was ever started (on 24th November 2008) and there is evidence about this fraudster selling fake capacity flash drives which was published elsewhere on the Internet about a month before we started this blog.

This fraudster vanished off ebay in November 2009, a few days after we published an article reporting our suspicions about the memory cards from the seller being fake too. Now this seller is back selling USB flash drives (models that are proven fakes), the same SD cards we wrote about in November 2009 and MP players.

Do not buy any flash memory items from this proven fraudster!! The feedback does not reflect the truth about this seller as few people (especially before this seller vanished off ebay when fewer people were aware there was such a thing as fake memory) actually test flash memory items properly before leaving feedback.

If you were unlucky enough to buy from cymemory before coming across this post then test the item with h2testw to find out what the real capacity is. We are certain that you will find that your USB flash drive, memory card or MP card will have a fake capacity, which corrupts files once the true capacity of the memory has been filled.

If (or rather when) your item fails testing with h2testw leave cymemory a negative – this serves two functions: warns other ebayers and leads to ebay suspending fraudsters if there are enough complaints. We’d suggest you include the following; so that other victims find this post:

Google: fightflashfraud cymemory

Report the seller’s other listings for the same item to ebay.

Open an ebay/paypal dispute and claim a refund. Do not give into any bribery or threats from the seller if cymemory tries to get you to remove the neg.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.
