Beware USB flash drives from huxiaohuan065 on ebay: test with h2testw

leave a comment »

The USB flash drive in this ebay listing from huxiaohuan065 is notorious – it has been sold on ebay in every fake capacity imagininable for several years. It is a favourite model with fake flash fraudsters as it is easy to program.

The actual capacity of the flash memory in these is a lot less than advertised though the operating system indicates the advertised capacity when you plug one into the computer. This is due to the fraudulent programming of the control chip. Once the real capacity has been filled the flash drive corrupts files.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

128GB DT200 flash drives from ebayer jajaxdvideo likely fakes

leave a comment »

If the 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 sold on June 4th in this ebay listing was genuine then the seller made a big loss by auctioning it. However, as this seller has since auctioned another one we don’t think it can have been a genuine Kingston – after all who goes risking another huge loss by listing an expensive item at auction with a low start price a second time? We therefore conclude that it must have been a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files and that the second one (ebay item 150454218679) will be the same.
