Notorious fake flash drives sold on ebay by super-service-online

The leather and steel type of flash drive sold in this ebay listing by super-service-online is the longest standing fake flash drive sold on ebay and is absolutely notorious – always fake capacity and corrupts files.

We think 128GB Kingston flash drive from ebayer gary121942 is fake

leave a comment »

Seller gary121942 tells us in this ebay listing:

I have heard that many are fake counterfits.. This is a real Flash Drive and has been taken down to be tested and it is working GREAT!! I have 2 myself and they work GREAT!

We think that either gary121942 is rather naïve and just plugged the drives in and looked at the properties (which naturally show what you would expect due to fraudulent programming of the control chip) or that his pants are on fire.

It appears gary121942 bought three 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drives (ebay item number 260615777209, removed by ebay) in June from suspended fake flash seller star88909. Two plus one makes three! You’d think that gary121942 might have twigged there could be a problem with these when ebay removed the listing and suspended the seller wouldn’t you?

We conclude that the USB flash drive in this ebay listing is probably a fake capacity counterfeit Kingston purchased on ebay from fraudulent seller star88909.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

ebay auction for fake 32GB Kingston flash drive from amaliaonline

leave a comment »

This 32GB Kingston flash drive looks like a fake manufactured by fraudsters in China – if it was a genuine Kingston of this model then the red colour indicates a 16GB flash drive not 32GB. We think this is a fake capacity counterfeit USB flash drive that corrupts files.

DT310 flash drive in private ebay auction by dealsandmore2009

leave a comment »

We think it unlikely that this 256GB Kingston DataTraveler sold in a private ebay auction by dealsandmore2009 is genuine. We think it very likely that this USB flash drive will turn out to be a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files. In the event that we are wrong and the flash drive is genuine the buyer will be able to verify the serial number with Kingston. This seller has a current auction for another of these.

Buyers are advised never to bid for flash memory items in private auctions – the items are almost certain to be fake.

counterfeit 256GB DT300 flash drives sold on ebay by 2009yanzi

leave a comment »

The 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 300 flash drives in this ebay listing from 2009yanzi are fake capacity counterfeits – they are way too cheap to be anything else. A fake capacity flash drive corrupts files. This seller also offers the 128GB DT200 (also counterfeit of course) and fake 256GB and 128GB Sony Vaio flash drives – ALL Sony Vaio flash drives are fake!!

UPDATE 01/08/2010
Seller 2009yanzi has been suspended by ebay who seem to have not only removed listings for fake flash drives but also all items sold by 2009yanzi – so anyone who bought a pair of ear-rings or a bracelet rather than a flash memory item will also find their item has vanished from their won list!

Beware: flash drives on ebay from alisa.peng will corrupt files

leave a comment »

Seller alisa.peng has listed two models of 16GB flash drive on ebay and both are certain to be fake capacity, which corrupts files. The one in the listing above is a counterfeit Kingston DataTraveler, the other is a familiar steel swivel model. In our opinion anyone who bought a flash drive from this seller might as well have flushed their money down the toilet – they will have a hard job getting their money back for these fakes as most of what they paid is in shipping charges.

64GB Kingston flash drive on ebay from soneromayor2006 sure to be fake

leave a comment »

Although ebay seller soneromayor2006 had only one negative feedback comment when we last looked this ebay member has sold quite a number of fake capacity USB flash drives including several of the notorious leather and steel type.

We are certain that this 64GB Kingston DataTraveler 150 flash drive will turn out to be a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files. In the highly unlikely event that we are wrong the buyer will be able to verify the serial number with Kingston.

It seems that most ebayers are still relying on what their operating system reports when they plug a flash drive in. This is not necessarily the truth as many flash drives are programmed to report a fake capacity. They leave positive feedback after (at most) looking at drive properties and saving a few small files.

Even a fake flash drive will seem to be fine at first!
It is only when the true capacity is exceeded that the problems begin.

32GB flash drives listed on ebay by anisaarch likely to be fake

As ebay seller anisaarch says to allow 10 days for dispatch of these 32GB USB flash drives we supect that this seller has made the big mistake of entering into a dropshipping arrangement with a fraudulent supplier. We strongly advise ebay sellers not to enter into dropshipping arrangements as you have no opportunity to examine the merchandise. If we are right then this USB flash drive is fake capacity and corrupts files.

fewdao10 selling notorious leather and steel flash drive on ebay

leave a comment »

The leather and steel model of flash drive in this ebay listing from fewdao10 is a notorious fake capacity USB flash drive that corrupts files. Whatever the capacity advertised we have never come across one with a real capacity over 4GB and most are 2GB or less. Once the real capacity is filled the file loss and data corruption begins. For this seller’s price you could buy a genuine 32GB flash drive elsewhere – for example play.com – but only buy from the company themselves, not from individuals selling on the site.

If the three Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drives sold recently by usatiger2010 (two 32GB and one 64GB) on ebay are genuine it seems this ebayer made a loss on sales. Top rated ebayer newbegin2010 sells notorious leather and steel flash drive

leave a comment »

Do you believe that you are safe when you buy from a seller that ebay gives top rating to? Well you shouldn’t!!Many top rated ebay sellers (especially in China) are actually fraudsters who (once they have built up a good feedback score) start selling fake flash memory items.

The leather and steel type of USB flash drive is notorious – always fake capacity and corrupts files. The price alone should alert ebayers to fakes – if someone is selling for half the price you would expect to pay for the advertised capacity and shipping is free then you can be fairly sure you are looking at a fake.

128GB Kingston DT200 listed on ebay by karaokebuyer111 a bit cheap

leave a comment »

The buy it now price in this ebay listing from karaokebuyer111 seems rather low for a 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drive which makes us wonder whether this seller bought from a fraudulent supplier. If the flash drives did come from a fraudulent supplier they will be fake capacity counterfeits which corrupt files. If they are genuine then buyers will be able to confirm this by verifying the serial numbers with Kingston. We think they probably came from a fraudulent supplier.

The fact that seller raz_1lion is prepared to take less than the already rather too low buy it now price in this ebay listing for a 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 300 flash drive makes us suspect that this seller is likely to have bought them from a fraudulent supplier. Are 256GB Kingston DT310 flash drives from ebayer maxamos2009 genuine?

leave a comment »

It is possible that the 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drives being auctioned on ebay by maxamos2009 are actually genuine as this seller seems to auction everything with a start price of $0.99. This seems a pretty risky strategy to us!! We suggest that buyers check that the drive is genuine by verifying the serial number with Kingston just in case the seller bought from a fraudulent supplier. If the serial number can be verified the flash drive should be genuine – if it can’t then there is a problem, Houston.

Most of the flash drives listed at auction on ebay turn out to be fakes that corrupt files. This may be the case with this 64GB Kingston DataTraveler 150 listed by new seller nino7141. ebay alert: 32GB flash drives sold by baicaipixiu are fakes

leave a comment »

If the flash drives in this ebay listing from baicaipixiu were genuine then they would be 4GB Kingston DataTraveler drives, but they are not geniune. They are fake capacity counterfeits – not (though they look like it) Kingston flash drives and not 32GB. UPDATE 04/08/2010: ebay seller baicaipixiu has been suspended by ebay, so listings have been removed and buyers will find that the item has vanished from their won list. If you were a buyer pursue a refund to the hilt!! Do not give up!!

PayPal will undoubtedly give you guff about returning it – point out it is a counterfeit and should be destroyed not returned – they will probably then give you guff about getting a letter from an expert – load of rubbish – anyone who knows their flash drives could look at this post and tell it is a fake. Your local computer store might help here as all the fakes sold on the Internet are damaging their business!

In our opinion this is such an obvious counterfeit that ebay should never have allowed such a blatently fraudulent listing in the first place!! We think ebay (parent company of PayPal) should ensure that any ebayer who has been defrauded on their site in this way gets an immediate full refund. After all ebay would not remove listings and suspend a seller if they didn’t know they were selling fakes, would they.

If they (ebay/paypal) don’t refund people when they themselves have suspended a seller and removed listings, then all their spouting about buyer protection is (as we have suspected for a long time) absolutely worthless.

128GB DT200 drives in ebay auctions from sww09 likely to be fake

leave a comment »

We think it unlikely that the 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 USB flash drives being auctioned on ebay by sww09 are genuine. If they are genuine then buyers will be able to confirm this by verifying the serial number with Kingston. If a buyer finds that their serial number cannot be verified then they have landed a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files.

Sellers in the far east usually know that what they are selling is “upgraded” memory (in other words programmed to show a false capacity) but a lot of the ebayers located elsewhere selling counterfeit and fake capacity memory items have no idea about the true cost and bought from fraudulent suppliers. This could well be the case with this seller.

ADVICE FOR EBAY SELLERS:

We strongly advise ebayers who plan to buy flash memory items from a wholesale outlet to research the true costs of flash memory items thoroughly before purchasing anything. You should avoid any wholesale outlet that is based in the far east (China, Singapore, Hong Kong etc) – especially for brand name items – as much (if not all) of the fake flash memory comes from that area.

If you want to become a reseller for brand names such as Kingston, Sony, Sandisk etc. approach the company directly for help with this rather than taking the risk of ending up with fakes.

Our advice to everyone, whether they are sellers or end users, is:
Test all flash memory items with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

fake 128GB Sony Vaio flash drives sold on ebay by 2010fjkpkl1201

Seller 2010fjkpkl1201 is yet another ebay fake flash fraudster. This seller offers a flash drive invented by by fraudsters in China – the Sony Vaio. Sony do not use the Vaio name for flash drives, only for laptops/notebooks. Any flash drive you see associated with the Sony Vaio name is a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files.

The flash drives in this listing supposedly have a whopping 128GB capacity – a tiny 128 megabytes is a lot more likely! We wonder how daft ebayers are that they think they can buy a 128GB flash drive from China on ebay for EUR 13.88 when an 8GB flash drive would cost them this much anywhere else!

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

We have noticed that people have been searching the Internet for the answer to the question:

As ebay seller danadharma (registered in Indonesia) has been selling a guide to dropshipping and gives the location of the 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drive in this listing as Hong Kong we are brought to the inevitable conclusion that this flash drive is being dropshipped from Hong Kong.

When an ebay seller has a dropshipping arrangement with a supplier the item is sent directly by the supplier and the seller never claps eyes on it. Where the item is any type of flash memory and the supplier is in the far east (Hong Kong for instance) it is almost certain that the item is fake.
