very dodgy looking ebay listing for 128GB flash drive by wirerauss

We considered this ebay listing from wirerauss to be extremely suspect – it looks as though the seller wasn’t getting anywhere with this (even once a picture showning the 128GB DT200 was added) and apparently ended the listing early.

Newer listings (item numbers 110557984633, 110557984889 and 110557984962) all show the 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 but buyers are warned in listings not to beleive their eyes – the seller says:

Up for bidding is a generic usb flash drive. It is brand new, never been used.

PLEASE READ BEFORE MAKING PURCHASE:

-BUYERS PURCHASE AT THEIR OWN RISK!

-Selling as is, no returns.

-These are generic usb flash drives, regardless of any indications that may state otherwise.

-the usb flashdrive MAY hold up to 128gb. There is no guarantee regardless of any indication on the package.

The odds of the flash drives being auctioned by wirerauss corrupting files is 99.99% – in other words the flash drives are fake capacity counterfeits which will undoubtedly corrupt users’ files and it seems that seller wirerauss knows it!

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.
