ebay alert: beware devious fake flash seller lfgsgert – do not buy!

This flash drive listed by devious fake flash fraudster lfgsgert is fake capacity and corrupts files. There are three glaringly obvious lies visible in our screenshot of this ebay listing:

  1. The claim to be a seller in the US
  2. The claim that the item is in the UK
  3. The claim that this fake has a 2 year warranty.

The seller is registered in China, the item is in China and there is no warranty – though we can gaurantee it is a fake! Do not buy this flash drive from lfgsgert – or anyone else selling this leather and steel type – it is a notorious fake.

128GB DT200 flash drives from ebayer profiseller4you surely fake

leave a comment »

If this 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drive is genuine then seller profiseller4you made a loss by auctioning it on ebay. The buyer is advised to check the serial number with Kingston; if the drive is genuine then Kingston will be able to verify it, if not this USB flash drive is a fake capacity counterfeit and the same will apply to others listed at auction by this seller. We think it much more likely that the buyer bought from a fraudulent supplier than it is that these are genuine.

32GB Kingston listed on ebay by theblackrosehand seems a bit cheap

The buy it now price for the 32GB Kingston DataTraveler flash drives in this and another ebay listing for a different model seems a little low which makes us wonder if theblackrosehand may have bought from a fraudulent supplier. If these flash drives are genuine buyers will be able to confirm this by verifying the serial number with Kingston. Beware! flash drives listed on ebay by polar_story sure to be fake!

leave a comment »

Seller polar_story looks like another ebay fake flash fraudster to us. Here are a few pointers about what to avoid when buying flash memory items on ebay. Bear in mind that you can still get stung even if none of these points apply to the seller you are considering buying from as there is no gaurantee that a seller is genuine – so we’d suggest buying from a reputable store like PC world instead. It may cost you more, but at least you can easily return an item you have problems with.

Anyhow; here is some basic advice, with comments on how it applies to this selller:

  1. Avoid sellers in the far east (China, Hong Kong, Singapore etc) – this seller is in Hong Kong.
  2. Avoid auctions with a low start price – this seller has a start price of 1p in auctions.
  3. Avoid sellers who massively load postage costs – this seller charges £10.49 for postage.
  4. Avoid sellers who have built up feedback with cheap items like screen protectors and styluses – this seller’s early feedback (first 18) is all for styluses sold for 6p or less with free p&p – an obvious ploy.

There is a lot more we could say; but for now we can say that it is 99.99% certain that any flash drive purchased from polar_story is fake capacity and corrupts files. The one in this listing is also a counterfeit Kingston and therefore highly illegal!

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

UPDATE 28/07/2010:
Sneaky fraudster polar_story has been extremely busy selling styluses at auction with a start price of 1p and free postage – sample sold item below:

As far as we can see most went for 1p and none for more than 6p – now why would someone sell something that was bound to make them a loss on every sale because of postage costs?? Oh yes, silly us, we quite forgot – it’s part of a highly organised fraud operation in which hundreds of posititve feedbacks for cheap crap makes fraudsters into top rated ebay sellers!!
