32GB Kingston from ebayer bigmike698 a bit too cheap to be genuine

The 32GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drives in this ebay listing from bigmike698 seem a bit too cheap to be genuine. We think this ebay seller may have bought these from one of the fraudulent wholesale outlets selling fake capacity counterfeit flash drives. If this is the case then this USB flash drive corrupts files. In the unlikely case that these are in fact genuine Kingston flash drives then buyers will be able to confirm this by verifying the serial numbers with Kingston.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

  1. Hi Mike,
Glad to hear you were alerted to the problem and did the right thing. If only all sellers were this sensible.

  2. That was in fact my auction. I had a potential buyer bring it to my attention there were tons of counterfeit drives circulating around. I found this site and a few others and used H2Test to confirm and they were in fact counterfeits.

Unfortunately 7 had been bid on and purchased before I found this out but I was able to catch it early enough that no customers ever received the drives and all were refunded immediately.

I’m thankful that a vigilant and well informed customer was able to send me to this site and some others for more information.
