beware: leather flash drives on ebay from hatyy2010 are fakes

leave a comment »

Here we have yet another ebay listing from China for the notorious leather and steel flash drive – always fake capacity, always corrupts files after a while. The flash drives from hatyy2010 will work for a while (probably until you have saved around 2GB of files) then things will start to be lost and corrupted. Why? because these flash drives are programmed to show a fake capacity to the operating system and once the real capacity is full there is nowhere for files to go.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

128GB DT200 in ebay auction from tradeitems2010 probable fake

We think it extremely unlikely that this 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drive (item number 230505492059) listed at auction on ebay by tradeitems2010 is genuine. We think it will turn out to be yet another fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files. If we are mistaken and the flash drive is genuine the buyer will be able to confirm this by verifying the serial number with Kingston.

Seller 1970cortina tells us in this ebay listing for 64GB USB flash drives:

You are bidding for a Brand New, 64GB usb (2.0) flash drive.
Metal Lipstick case
This is an actual 64GB, DOS formatted, ensuring that it is an actual 64 GB.
All drives have been fomatted to “exFAT”
You can plug and use in Windows Vista and Windows 7.
Windows XP requires a drive from the Microsoft Website.

That sounds a bit strange to us.

Is 128GB Kingston in ebay auction from bradders908 genuine??

leave a comment »

If this 128GB Kingston DataTraveler USB flash drive is genuine then seller bradders908 risks making a loss by listing it at auction on ebay. If the drive is genuine the buyer will be able to verify the serial number with Kingston. If the serial number cannot be verified it will be a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files.

If this 128GB Kingston DT200 flash drive sold at auction on ebay is genuine seller totoche6161 made a loss on the transaction. If it is genuine the buyer will be able to confirm this by verifying the serial number with Kingston. If the serial number cannot verified then it will be (as we suspect) a fake capacity counterfeit.
