256GB DT310 flash drive in ebay auction from gary2 may be fake

leave a comment »

We suspect that the 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drive listed at auction by gary2 may be yet another fake capacity counterfeit. Screenshots showing the capacity reported by the operating system for a flash drive are totally meaningless as this only shows what the control chip of the drive reports and this is simply what someone programmed it to show.

If this USB flash drive is genuine then it will have a unique serial number which can be used to verify with Kingston that the drive is genuine. If Kingston cannot verify the serial number then the flash drive is a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

dlc.distribution lists 128GB leather and steel flash drives that trash files

leave a comment »

The leather and steel model of flash drive in this ebay listing from dlc.distribution is fake capacity and corrupts files. This seller obviously bought from one of the many fraudulent wholesale outlets in China. There are 3 surefire indicators that these flash drives are fakes:

  1. The model of flash drive – the leather and steel type always prove to be fakes
  2. The packaging – all flash drives in this packaging have proved to be fake
  3. The shiny capacity sticker – never seen on genuine drives, only ever on fakes

Never buy a flash drive with any of these indicators – you will find it corrupts your files!! The leather and steel type is notorious – sold on ebay for years in every imaginable false capacity. This particular model is a favourite with the fraud gangs in China who manufacture fake flash drives – very easy to program so that it reports whatever capacity they like to the operating system.

256GB Kingston flash drive in ebay auction from georgiabarry15

As seller georgiabarry15 would have made a loss on the 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 sold in an ebay auction on July 2nd if it was genuine we are a bit surprised to see the seller risking another loss by auctioning this 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310. Of course it could be that both are fake capacity counterfeits.

Genuine Kingston DT200 and DT 310 flash drives have unique serial numbers which can be used to check with Kingston that the drives are genuine. If a serial number cannot be verified with Kingston then the USB flash drive is a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files.

oasfgtrtr sells fake Sony Vaio flash drives on ebay that will trash files

leave a comment »

There is no such thing as a genuine Sony Vaio flash drive – they are fakes that will corrupt your files. Seller oasfgtrtr is registered on ebay Australia but we have a feeling that this seller and some others who have listed obvious fake flash drives recently may possibly have found ways of registering themselves in a different country from the one they live in.

Ebay has been quite active in suspending new IDs in the far east recently when obvious fakes are listed and now we see listings from IDs regisitered in the EU and Americas worded very much like those from long time fraudsters in the far east.

We’d bet our bottom dollar that these are shipped from the far east not Australia. Perhaps the buyers who bought these fakes could examine the envelopes and leave comments on this post giving the location they were sent from?

UPDATE: This seller has been suspended by ebay
