ebay alert! 128GB DT200 flash drives from ebayer joshtistic23

leave a comment »

We thought the buy it now price of the 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 USB flash drives from ebay seller joshtistic23 seemed a bit low so we had a closer look at the listing. As these are both a bit too cheap and are shipped from China – which means that they are likely to come straight from a fraudulent wholsale outlet selling fake capacity and counterfeit flash memory.

It seems joshtistic23 has entered into a drop-shipping arrangement with a supplier in China – something we would advise ebay sellers never to do where brand name items or flash memory is concerned. We are certain that what buyers will get is a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files. Never buy flash memory that is being shipped from China – it is pretty certain to be fake capacity, which corrupts files.

UPDATE 17/08/2010
This seller is also offering job lots of five 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drives at an impossibly low price – you’d be lucky to find one genuine Dt310 at the buy it now price for a lot of five from joshtistic23!!

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

fake 32GB Sony Vaio USB flash drives on ebay from halikay10

leave a comment »

Anyone who bought one of these supposedly 32GB Sony Vaio USB flash drives on ebay from halikay10 will find it corrupts their files after a while. These are fakes manufactured by fraudsters in China and have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with Sony.

There is no such thing as a genuine Sony Vaio flash drive and any flash drive sold as Sony Vaio is a fake capacity counterfeit programmed to report a false capacity to the operating system. The real capacity of these will be 4GB at the most – and once this is full the file loss and corruption begins.

Although the location of these is given as the USA this is (like the capacity of the drive and the use of the Sony Vaio nam) pure deception. These fake flash drives are in China along with the seller!

If 256GB Kingston flash drive from ebayer ghereben67 is genuine the seller may make a loss

If the 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drive being auctioned on ebay by ghereben67 is genuine then this seller risks making a loss by selling it at auction. Genuine DT310 drives have unique serial numbers so the buyer will be able to check with Kingston whether or not the drive is genuine by trying to verify the serial number with Kingston. If it is genuine Kingston will be able to confirm this but if they cannot verify the serial number then this USB flash drive is a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files.

UPDATE 08/09/2010
Seems that ghereben67 has now sold quite a number of these at prices that would have meant a huge loss if they were genuine. We are now certain that the 256GB Kingston flash drives from ghereben67 are fake capacity counterfeits and that anyone who bought one will find it corrupts files after a while.

If this 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drive listed at auction on ebay by turnkeykitchen was genuine the seller would risk making a loss by auctioning it. However as this seller is offering these on buy it now for US$125 with shipping of $18.45 (too cheap) we are certain that anyone who buys a 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 USB flash drive will end up with a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files.

32GB flash drives from jonbob542 in private ebay listing a bit cheap

leave a comment »

The 32GB flash drives in this ebay listing from jonbob542 seem a little too cheap to us which make us wonder if this seller bought from one of the fraudulent suppliers in China. If so they will be fake capacity flash drives and a fake capacity flash drive always corrupts files once the real capacity has been filled.

Fakes are programmed to report a false capacity to the operating system which fools most buyers (and many sellers too) into thinking that what they see when they plug a flash drive into the computer is the actual capacity of the flash drive. Not necessarily so – what the operating system shows depends on what the control chip of the flash drives has been programmed to report.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

ebayer 666cube fails to sell notorious 128GB leather flash drives

leave a comment »

Seller 666cube failed to get any bids for the notorious 128GB leather and steel type flash drives – or were they 32GB? the seller seemed a bit confused in listing number 300455446537. Maybe ebayers are finally getting wise to the fact that these USB flash drives are always fake capacity, which corrupts files.

Undeterred 666cube now has the listing below (number 300455775262) with the same picture, but the flash drives have now been transformed from 128GB (shown on the shiny sticker) or 32GB (the other capacity given in the previous listing) into 4GB. Well, that’s probably a bit closer – but we suspect the real capacity will be half that or less. Our thanks to Axel for drawing our attention to this seller.
