256GB DT310 USB flash drives on ebay from altpowershop

The buy it now price for the 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drives being sold on ebay by altpowershop is too low for these to be anything other than fake capacity counterfeits and anyone who buys one will find that the Usb flash drive corrupts their files.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

  1. To Altpowershop,
You fell into the same trap as many ebay sellers – thinking that (like general goods where there can be a big profit margin) that you could buy genuine flash memory items cheaply from China. You can’t!

Unlike things like jewellery, clothing or general goods the main cost of flash memory items (USB flash drives, memory cards and the flash memory in things like MP players, digital photo frames etc) lies in the cost of the memory chips rather than labour costs or the manufacture of other components.

As we understand it the cost of the flash memory chips is around 50% of costs – so the manufacturers don’t make a lot and it leaves a very small profit margin for anyone trying to sell genuine flash memory items below the prices in retail stores (even on their own websites) and virtually impossible on ebay!!

  2. Hi, I can confirm these were counterfeit Kingston USB drives. I purchased them from a Chinese seller on aliexpress.com. I am totally embarrassed by the situation. I pulled the last few off ebay as soon as I became aware of the problems, and refunded each and every customer who purchased one of these from me. Looked like I was going to make big money, but I got a black eye instead.
