Fighting flash fraud on Ebay

The authors of this blog want to elimnate flash fraud on Ebay

counterfeit Kingston DT310 flash drives from ebayer iktemur

Seller iktemur states in this ebay listing:

Brand New 256gb Usb Flash Drive. Can Genuinely hold 256gb of data!

** This is not: **
– A Kingston product, however the appearance of the Usb is of the Kingston DT310
– A hacked usb. It can genuinely hold 256gb of data.

** Speeds you will receive are: **
2.5mb/s – 4mb/s Writing
5mb/s – 7mb/s Reading

For $700 less all you lose is the speed.

Note: I will be out of office until the 10/01/2011

If the flash drives are not genuine Kingston then they are counterfeits and seller iktemur is breaking the law by selling them. Had iktemur actually tested these rather than taking what the operating system reported (which is always the advertised capacity rather than the real capacity!) this seller would have discovered that they cannot hold anywhere near 256GB of data.

Anyone foolish enough to have bought one of these fake capacity counterfeit USB flash drives will discover that it corrupts their files once the real capacity of the drive (probably no more than 4GB) has been filled.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.
