conninc may make loss on ebay auctions if DT300 flash drives are genuine

leave a comment »

If the 256GB Kingston DT 300 flash drives listed at auction on ebay by seller conninc are genuine then the seller could make a big loss by auctioning them rather than using a buy it now listing. Buyers can check whether or not a Kingston flash drive is genuine quite easily – here are the steps:

  1. Look at the back of the pack – is there a serial number?
  2. If there is no serial number (there should be a label showing this) then it is sure to be a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files – but the presence of a serial number does not, in itself, gaurantee it is genuine.

  3. Look at the USB connector – is there engraving on it giving details about the flash drive?
  4. If there is no engraving you can be sure it is a counterfeit that will trash your files – but again, the presence of engraving does not in itself gaurantee it is genuine.

  5. If both a serial number and engraving are present try verifying the serial number with Kingston.
  6. If Kingston cannot verify the serial number then you have a fake capacity counterfeit and your data will become lost or corrupted after a while.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:
We have noticed a development in this seller’s listings that lead us to suspect that this may be a case of deliberate fraud as the seller now offers the option of a 32GB flash drive (apparently tested) as an alternative for the same price – this suggests that conninc knows these are fakes.

Buy a Kingston flash drive from ebayer jo2000_2000 at your peril!

We wouldn’t touch the supposedly 256gb Kingston flash drive being auctoned in this ebay listing with a barge pole. We think it will turn out to be a fake capacity counterfeit flash drive which corrupts files – and the statement by jo2000_2000 that no responsibility will be taken for the capacity of the drive is hardly reassuring!

The listing shown above (ebay item 270596039674) did not have a picture and has now mysteriously vanished. However, we now have a picture shown in ebay ebay item 270596040264 (see right) – a very obvious fake. The DataTraveler 200 is not made in pink and not in 256GB capacity – this is a fake manufactured by fraudsters in China.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

256GB Kingston from ebayer laurenburnslaurenburns probable fake

We have a feeling that this 256GB Kingston DataTraveler USB flash drive listed at auction on ebay by laurenburnslaurenburns will turn out to be counterfeit and fake capacity. If we are wrong the buyer will be able to verify the serial number with Kingston. If we are right then this USB flash drive corrupts files.

UPDATE:
This seller went on to sell a number of fake Kingston flash drives before being suspended by ebay, who have removed listings.

whv-2000 lists obvious fake 256GB Kingston flash drive on ebay

The USB flash drive in this ebay listing from whv-2000 is not a genuine 256GB Kingston flash drive. It is counterfeit, fake capacity and corrupts files. How do we know? Because this model is not made in capacities over 128GB – except for counterfeits from China, of course.

UK ebay member heeds warning that flash drives were counterfeit

Kingston do not make the DataTraveler 200 in 256GB capacity as the ebayer who listed this would have realised had this seller taken the simple precaution of checking the Kingston website before buying flash drives to sell on ebay. This ebayer obviously bought from a fraudulent supplier.
