leave a comment »

There is no such thing as a 500GB Sony Micro Vault USB flash drive – this item sold on ebay by vidasz is fake fake fakity fake. The is not and never will be USB flash drives of 500GB capacity from Sony or anyone else. If you see one for sale you can be sure that you are looking at a fake.

The buyer of this fake flash drive left this record of communication with an ebay representative as a comment on our report suspect sellers page but we thought it would be more appropriate to put it here with the item it is about:

i just fallen for a listing from a UK seller. Tried to workout a solution with eBay but they want me to treat is as a “normal” return wanting me to work it out with the seller after 7 days through the return mechanism. Here is some of the conversation with the genuis at their help center:

Hello, thank you for waiting and welcome to eBay Live Help. My name is Polaris. I’m just going to take a quick minute to read over what you’ve gone over with the previous representative and I’ll be right back.

Hello. I was a victim of a fraud and Ebay helped in it. Please check item # 250604638594. I just purchased this item. The seller demanded immediate payment so I paid also. Through PayPal.
4:33:29 AM rootsq8
oh great.. save me the trouble or retyping. thx
4:35:38 AM Polaris B.
May I put you on hold for a few minutes while I check on this?
4:35:42 AM rootsq8
ok
4:36:58 AM Polaris B.
You want to return the item?
4:37:07 AM rootsq8
yes please and a refund
4:38:19 AM rootsq8
i already filed a return but i dont want to wait for the seller to respond because im sure he will not comply seeing that he foreced an immediate payment and your involvment is not an option to you since eBay was made aware of these fardualent items before and if it wasn’t for eBay allowing this listing I wouldn’t have fallen for it
4:39:16 AM rootsq8
in other words, please do not treat this as a “normal item” return where me and seller have to reach a solution together. i need you to force a return and a refund
4:39:48 AM Polaris B.
You can file a case 7 days from the date of the transaction.
4:40:06 AM rootsq8
i know i can but i wish you read what i wrote before telling me that

4:42:01 AM rootsq8

claim of what???????? this is NOT a normal item
4:42:25 AM rootsq8
THIS IS A FRAUD
4:42:40 AM rootsq8
it shouldn’t take the normal course of a NORMAL LEGITIMATE item
4:42:57 AM Polaris B.
I understand but there is a process that we have to follow here on eBay, you will receive your refund after the case.
4:43:13 AM rootsq8
feel free to keep arguing with me.. this all will be posted to the world
4:43:59 AM Polaris B.
I’m not arguing with you, I’m just explaining that we have to follow the claim process here.
4:44:01 AM rootsq8
why can’t you enforce it now??? this is a fraud and ebay knows about it. It is ebay’s fault that listing slipped. Do you wanna cover for your screw up at my expense?
4:44:23 AM rootsq8
claim process applies only when it is a legitimate return or non receipt
4:44:33 AM rootsq8
if the issue is a fraud you should take action NOW
4:44:38 AM rootsq8
not now, IMMEDIATELY
4:45:15 AM Polaris B.
Even if you try to file a case now, you won’t be able to because the system won’t allow you.
4:45:24 AM rootsq8
DUH
4:45:29 AM rootsq8
HENCE I AM TALKING TO YOU NOW
4:45:37 AM rootsq8
you are a HUMAN being not a machine right?
4:46:52 AM rootsq8
if you care about ebay image and reputation you should escelate this to someone who may have more authority to do things now not to tell me to wait
4:47:13 AM Polaris B.
I’m afraid we have to follow the rules here.
4:47:30 AM rootsq8
believe me when the log of our conversation hits that blog now its gonna be ugly for you personally and for eBay.
4:47:37 AM rootsq8
Ok fine.
4:47:49 AM rootsq8

This illustrates just how much use ebay is at dealing with fraud on their site – absolutely no good at all! They’re very good at hiding the evidence afterwards by removing all trace of the fakes sold afterwards though!

If you bought fake flash memory on ebay try to get a screen capture before the item vanishes and get in touch with us giving a location where people can view the image – that way the evidence of the fraudulent listing is recorded on the Internet!

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

Looks like this ebayer in Australia has been to fakeflashland

If the 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 USB flash drives sold by zanygolfer37 are genuine this seller is making a huge loss. However, we don’t think this is the case – we think this ebayer bought from one of the many fraudulent wholesalers supplying counterfeits. Counterfeit flash memory is always fake capacity and destroys files after a while.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

UPDATE 31/12/09

Seller zanygolfer37 has now listed the very obvious fake flash drive on the left. There is no such thing as a 500GB USB flash drive made by Sony, or anyone else for that matter.

As this is patently fake then we can say with absolute certainty that this seller bought from a fraudulent supplier and that any USB flash drives from this seller a pretty certain to be fakes that will corrupt files.

Job lot of ten fake 500GB Sony flash drives on ebay Australia

Sony do not produce 500GB Microvault USB flash drives – the largest they sell are 16GB. No one else produces USB flash drives of this capacity either. There is such a thing as a 500GB solid state hard drive but it’s not the kind of thing you can put on your lanyard or keyring. Seller 830.patrickd obviously went shopping in fake flash land without researching flash memory first – otherwise the seller would have known these are fakes.

Australian ebay seller lists massive fake flash drive for sale

cantareballare We previously posted suspicions that Kingston flash drives from seller cantareballare could be counterfeit. This seller has now listed a very obvious fake at a massive 500GB capacity!

There is no such thing as a 500GB Sony Micro Vault USB flash drive! In fact there is no such thing as a 500GB USB flash drive period. Nobody makes flash drives in this capacity and the highest capacity genuine Sony is 16GB.

This fake flash drive will trash users’ files. The properties of the drive will display as 500 GB but this is nothing like the truth. The real capacity is tiny but the drive is programmed to fool the operating system.

We advise everyone to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Report in to SOSFakeFlash if your testing confirms you have a false capacity device.
