64GB USB flash drives in private ebay auctions from tcmcnasty

Ok, I did not get what I was expecting from my supplier, the led is red instead of blue and there in no clear plastic jewel for the status indicator but this drive is fully functional and has every bit as much space as advertised (64 Gigabytes) If I would have gotten the drives that I payed for I wouldn’t be taking this loss but stuff happens! Feel free to ask any questions, I will leave the drive in the retail package unless you would like it taken out and tested before I ship it (basically, I put programs pics and videos on it run ’em then I reformat with the zero out option in my disc utility and print the results for you)
The drive I took apart is not one that I am selling it is a sample exactly like the sealed ones up for auction.
If the drive doesn’t work send it back to me and I will refund your winning bid.

If ebay seller tcmcnasty is serious about giving refunds then we think all buyers will be asking for one!

What tcmcnasty failed to mention is that what arrived from the supplier were counterfeit 64GB Kingston DataTraveler 150 flash drives.

Test flash memory items from ebay seller jozron with h2testw now!

with one comment

Why would Hong Kong based seller jozron feel the need to use private ebay auctions for flash memory items? Usually when sellers do this the items are obviously too cheap to be genuine but items from this seller are not cheap!!

We wonder if this could be to hide what was sold in case of complaints – and it seems, looking at the seller’s feedback that there have been a few. We strongly advise anyone who bought a flash memory item (USB flash drive, memory card etc) from jozron to test immediately with the free program h2testw as we think you are at risk of data loss and corruption.

is ebay seller amnon.bl fraudulent? Dodgy listing for USB flash drive!

leave a comment »

This is not our first report of suspicions about USB flash drives listed on ebay by amnon.bl – we think this seller has sold a range of fakes over a period of months. When we first published an article about this seller in February we thought that this seller might have bought from a fraudulent supplier in all innocence – we now think this seller may well have been selling fakes deliberately. A fake capacity flash drive (whether a counterfeit brand name item or a generic fake) always corrupts files after a while.

The picture in this ebay listing appears to have been doctored to remove evidence that these are probably fake capacity counterfeit Sandisk flash drives.

It looks as though the places where Sandisk cruzer micro flash drives have markings giving the model and capacity have been badly edited in photoshop (or some other image editing program) to erase these markings. If we are right (and we think we are) then this is pretty certain to be a case of deliberate fraud.

We advise anyone who bought a flash drive that fails testing with h2testw from amnon.bl to leave a negative comment for the seller and open a paypal case immediately. If you already left positive feedback then leave a follow-up comment to warn other buyers about this seller.

Only you, as buyers, can put an end to the career of a fraudulent seller!

Corsair and Kingston USB flash drives from ebayer freedoomnwo

leave a comment »

If the 64GB Corsair Voyager flash drive in this ebay listing (Item number: 180579620125) is genuine then seller freedoomnwo could well make a loss by auctioning it. We have a feeling that neither this nor the 32GB Kingston DataTraveler flash drives in buy it now listings (Item numbers: 180579607307 and 180579612436) are genuine because there is a sticker shown in the pictures that we have only ever seen on fakes:

Buyers can check whether or not a Kingston flash drive is genuine quite easily – here are the steps:

  1. Look at the back of the pack – is there a serial number?
  2. If there is no serial number (there should be a label showing this) then it is sure to be a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files – but the presence of a serial number does not, in itself, guarantee it is genuine.

  3. Look at the USB connector – is there engraving on it giving details about the flash drive?
  4. If there is no engraving you can be sure it is a counterfeit that will trash your files – but again, the presence of engraving does not in itself guarantee it is genuine.

  5. If both a serial number and engraving are present try verifying the serial number with Kingston.
  6. If Kingston cannot verify the serial number then you have a fake capacity counterfeit and your data will become lost or corrupted after a while.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

It seems that crj54321 (see comment) is rather annoyed by us stating what we think is a simple fact – you cannot sell genuine 64GB Corsair flash drives on ebay for £23.99 with free P&P; unless they were stolen, of course – whe didn’t think of that! Naw – we don’t think he is a thief, just another ebayer who bought from a fraudulent supplier and can’t accept the facts.

Here are the ebay item numbers of the flash drives sold:

160490053243, 160490879469, 160490336635, 160489454123, 160486701432, 160486624732

Colin (crj54321) has put up a new listing (ebay item number 160495349750) with a price of £3,000.00 – presumably a response to the fact that we said you could not possibly sell genuine 64GB Corsair flash drives at the price he was selling at. Seems a rather futile response to us. Doesn’t change the fact that you can’t buy these cheaply enough to sell them on ebay at £23.99 – unless he has a very special secret??

get2aam lists counterfeit 128GB Corsair flash drive on ebay

The 128GB Corsair flash drive does not look like the one pictured in this ebay listing from get2aam. The model shown is only made up to 64GB capacity so the USB flash drive being sold by get2aam is a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files.

manost2007 auctions fake 128GB Corsair flash drives on ebay

leave a comment »

A genuine 128GB Corsair flash drive does not look like the one in this ebay listing from manost2007 – the model shown is not made in this capacity as anyone who checks the Corsair website will see. Be assured that this USB flash drive is a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files. Seller manost2007 no doubt got them from a fraudulent supplier in China. The use of private auctions to sell these suggests that the seller may be aware they are fakes.

trustdsp auctioning Sony Vaio flash drive on ebay

As this 64GB USB flash drive being auctioned on ebay by trustdsp is a Sony Vaio and there is no such thing as a genuine Sony Vaio flash drive this flash drive is fake capacity and corrupts files. In the light of this we suspect that 16GB Corsair flash drives from this seller (ebay item number 180559501924) could be fake capacity counterfeits if they came from the same source.

Here we have another listing for the notorious leather and steel type flash drive that is always fake capacity and corrupts files from yet another ebay id: fashionwq that no doubt belongs to one of the familiar ebay fake flash fraud gangs in China.

Seller fashionwq also offers other flash drives (Kingston, Sony Microvault, the notorious nonexistent Sony Vaio) and memory cards (Kingston, Sandisk and generic fakes) at prices so low that we can hardly credit that anyone would be stupid enough to buy.

myhouse69 – a case of deliberate fake flash fraud on ebay!!

leave a comment »

What we have here is a disguised counterfeit 64GB Kingston DataTraveler 150 – the sale of this is nothing less than deliberate fraud. The buyer (if anyone is daft enough) will find this flash drive corrupts their files. The seller knows full well what he or she is doing as a look through feedback and examination of previous items sold reveals:

Sadly; unless len-sys-64 and mckinneybuyguy have already put in a claim against the seller they may have great difficulty in recovering their money from myhouse69, ebay or Paypal. Here is what myhouse69 said in the two listings:

Text of ebay item number 200502922448 sold on Aug 01, 2010 to len-sys-64:

Up for sale is a Kingston Data Traveler 150, 64 gb capacity Flash (Jump) Drive. It is listed as used only because the package was opened to inspect it and test it. I work in data processing and was able to purchase quite a few of these for a good deal. Per the manufacturer, it is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows XP (SP1, SP2), Windows 2000 (SP4), MAC O/S X v. 10.3 and Linux v 2.6x+.

It is simple, convenient, and practical. Countless times I have used the one that I have to download and transfer giga-bytes worth of data without any problems. Its dimensions are approximately 3.06″x0.9″x0.47″. As always, make sure the device you will be using is compatible with this product.

The item is sold as is, but there shouldnt be any issues since it is basically new.

Oh yea? Well we wouldn’t want myhouse69 in charge of processing our data!

Text of ebay item number 200507090669 sold on Aug 13 to ebayer mckinneybuyguy:

Up for sale is a REPLICA of a Kingston Data Traveler 150, 64 gb capacity Flash (Jump) Drive. This item is Made In China. Its capacity is a full 63.9 gb, and functions perfectly.

It is listed as used only because the package was opened to inspect it and test it. Per the manufacturer, it is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows XP (SP1, SP2), Windows 2000 (SP4), MAC O/S X v. 10.3 and Linux v 2.6x+ (and more than likely Windows 7)

It is simple, convenient, and practical. I use one that I own often and without any problems. Its dimensions are approximately 3.06″x0.9″x0.47″. As always, make sure the device you will be using is compatible with this product.

The item is sold as is, but there shouldnt be any issues since it is basically new. I have several of them, so if you want more than one let me know after you win (no extra shipping) and I will send you the price for extras.

Thank you and happy bidding.

Replica?? Doesn’t myhouse69 realise that copies of brand name good are counterfeits and the sale of counterfeit goods is a criminal offence??

We don’t think that myhouse69 will be an ebay member very long if this is the way he or she intends to behave.

More fake flash sellers suspended by ebay, more vanished items!

leave a comment »

The seller of the counterfeit 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drives in ebay listing number 150494871606 has been suspended by ebay. Here is the listing as it appears in an item list:

Because seller 2010xcxqinghao5168 has been suspended here is the message you get if you try to access the actual listing:

If you bought from 2010xcxqinghao5168 you will see a message like this if you try to access the item – or it may even have vanished from your won list altogether as ebay does a good job of removing the evidence of fraud on their site. You should, however, be able to find details of the purchase in your paypal account.

If you bought a flash memory item from any of the following sellers it will have vanished from your won list for the same reason – they have been suspended by ebay:

Is 128GB DT200 in ebay auction from somethingnew18 genuine?

leave a comment »

If this 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 USB flash drive being sold at auction on ebay by somethingnew18 is genuine then the seller could well make a loss by auctioning it. Buyers can check whether or not a Kingston flash drive is genuine quite easily – here are the steps:

  1. Look at the back of the pack – is there a serial number?
  2. If there is no serial number (there should be a label showing this) then it is sure to be a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files – but the presence of a serial number does not, in itself, gaurantee it is genuine.

  3. Look at the USB connector – is there engraving on it giving details about the flash drive?
  4. If there is no engraving you can be sure it is a counterfeit that will trash your files – but again, the presence of engraving does not in itself gaurantee it is genuine.

  5. If both a serial number and engraving are present try verifying the serial number with Kingston.
  6. If Kingston cannot verify the serial number then you have a fake capacity counterfeit and your data will become lost or corrupted after a while.

Used Corsair flash drive sold on ebay by uktruster seems to be fake

with 5 comments

As far as we are aware the model of Corsair flash drive sold at auction in this ebay listing by uktruster was never made in a capacity above 64GB. If seller uktruster used it for a week we don’t think he or she saved very much data to it. We suspect the real capacity of this flash drive is probably no more than 4GB – the usual maximum for fake capacity counterfeits.

ebayer mister-noodles takes big risk if 64GB Sandisk flash drives are genuine

with 2 comments

Seller mister-noodles tells us in this ebay listing that:

These normally retail for $277.99 on SanDisk’s website

This makes us wonder why (if the flash drives are genuine) mister-noodles has at least five auctions for these rather than listing them in a single buy it now listing at a reasonable price. Is mister-noodles a gambler? After all, by selling at auction there is a risk of loss. We saw a question and answer on this listing:

Q: hello, i would like to bid on this product but i want to be sure this is authentic since there are a lot of fake ones selling in ebay. thanks
A: Hi there, all of the flash drives I’m selling including this one are 100% authentic and were purchased from a retail box store for a small business that never got off the ground. Hope this helps! 🙂

Hmm… time will tell.

Of course, it is alway possible that the business that didn’t get off the ground failed because they didn’t check that things were genuine. Maybe mister-noodles should have taken the precaution of testing some of the flash drives being sold with h2testw to ensure that they are not fake capacity counterfeits before listing them on ebay.

fake flash seller yanjiangzheng27 sells fake Sony in private ebay listing

leave a comment »

Anyone who bought the supposedly 64GB flash drive in this private ebay listing from yanjiangzheng27 landed themselves a fake capacity counterfeit USB flash drive that corrupts files. Why is it counterfeit? Because (although not mentioned in the listing) the flash drive in the picture is marked with the name Sony. Sony has absolutely no connection with these flash drives and it is a criminal offence to sell an item bearing a brand name such as Sony or Kingston if it is not sold by that company. This is a form of fraud normally called counterfeiting.

Selling items that are not as described is also a form of fraud. This flash drive is advertised as having a capacity of 64GB. We are certain that anyone who tests one of these with h2testw will find that the capacity is a lot less than 64GB. The real capacity is unlikely to be as much as 4GB. Therefore the item is not as described, so we consider this listing fraudulent on another count.

Anyone aware of the true cost of flash memory would know that you are extremely unlikely to be able to buy a genuine flash drive above 8GB capacity for £14.99 ANYWHERE. If you bought one of these you landed yourself with a fake capacity USB flash drive that corrupts files and a big fight to get a refund!

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Despite their claims of buyer protection ebay and paypal seem to do all they can to avoid refunding defrauded buyers.

Test USB flash drives sold on ebay by teliha2007 with h2testw
