256GB Kingston DT310 flash drives from ebayer paradise_island2009

leave a comment »

The 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drives in this ebay listing from paradise_island2009 are a bit too cheap so we suspect this seller bought them from one of the fraudulent wholesale outlets supplying fake capacity counterfeits.

If we are right then anyone who buys one of these will find it corrupts their files after a while. If we are mistaken and they are genuine then buyers will be able to confirm this by verifying the serial number with Kingston.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Beware: flash drives on ebay from seller sawdogar are fakes!!

with one comment

Seller sawdogar has put up numerous private one day auctions on ebay for what are obviously fake flash drives – the combination of private auctions and the short time span lead us to think that this is likely to be a case of deliberate fraud rather than an innocent ebay seller who bought from a fraudulent supplier without realising.

The flash drive sold in the listing above is a particularly obvious fake – there never has been, is not now, and never will be any such thing as a 500GB USB flash drive. If you see a 500GB USB flash drive like this for sale (as opposed to a hard drive that connects via the USB port) we can guarantee it is a fake!!

There is a genuine flash drive like the one sold in the listing below – but if it was genuine then sawdogar would have made a massive loss on the sale.

What anyone who bought a flash drive from sawdogar will get is a fake capacity flash drive that corrupts files. We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

256GB Kingston flash drive from ebayer meecham unlikely to be genuine

leave a comment »

We think it unlikely that this 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drive listed at auction on ebay by meecham is genuine. The seller provides a screenshot of the drive properties shown by the operating system. Such screenshots are totally meaningless as all the operating system shows is whatever the control chip of the drive has been programmed to report and it is very easy to program the chip with false information.

We have not yet discovered where seller meecham obtained this flash drive but we are pretty certain it will turn out to be a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files. In the unlikely event that we are wrong and the flash drive is in fact genuine the buyer will be able to confirm this by verifying the serial number with Kingston. If Kingston cannot verify the serial number then our suspicions are correct and this is a fake.

Quick suspension of fake flash fraudster qiongmei_xue201 by ebay

leave a comment »

Seller qiongmei_xue201 was quickly supended by ebay for listing this fake capacity counterfeit 256GB DT 310 flash drive and 128GB DT200 and both listings have been removed (ebay item 270615658918 and ebay item 270615658377). It seems that ebay is at least removing many of the most obvious fraudulent listings for Kingston flash drives much more quickly now than we have ever seen before.

Here are a few other fake flash sellers recently suspended by ebay, some of whom we have already posted about (enter seller ID in search box) while others vanished before we managed to write about them:

xfxcfx110 listed counterfeit 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drives
mdsjhut815 listed fake Sony Vaio flash drives (all Sony Vaio flash drives are fake!)
xdfxcv2010 very nasty listing that could have led to even more fake flash on ebay!
xcfasdf2010 listed counterfeit 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drives
ghyhgb2010 listed counterfeit 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drives

It seems that ebay is being a lot more pro-active in removing obvious fake flash listings and suspending sellers where the seller has little or no feedback – however they could do a lot better than this if they put some thought into it. They could actually prevent most fake flash memory items being listed on ebay in the first place with a bit more effort.

Let’s hope we can look forward to the blogs about fake flash on ebay becoming redundant because we finally get what we all want – an ebay free of fake and counterfeit flash memory items that corrupt people’s files. Those of us in the blogosphere can then stop wearing our fingers to the bone and return to normal life!

256GB DT310 in ebay auction from lindahoney13 probably fake

leave a comment »

Seller lindahoney13 listed this single 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 USB flash drive at auction on an ebay with a 3 day listing (item number 180540128316) with a start price of £19.99 and postage costs of £3.00. We don’t think for a second that this flash drive is genuine. We are sure that this is yet another fake capacity counterfeit USB flash drive that corrupts files.

No canny Scot who lives in a wee place like Falkirk would risk losing well over a hundred pounds by listing a genuine one of these like this!!

It costs a lot more than the bid shown when this listing was captured to buy these wholesale in bulk. In fact it actually costs more than £50 to manufacture one. We have a feeling that this was purchased from one of the many fraudulent sellers recently kicked off ebay for selling counterfeit Kingston flash drives.

PLEASE EBAYERS – DO NOT RE-SELL FLASH MEMORY ITEMS BOUGHT ON EBAY!!

If (by some miracle) this flash drive is genuine the buyer will be able to confirm this by verifying the serial number with Kingston. We are pretty certain there is a snowball’s chance in hell that Kingston will verify this flash drive.

bought Kingston flash drives on ebay from georgiabarry15? Check serial numbers with Kingston!

If the 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drive sold by georgiabarry15 in the ebay listing shown above is genuine then this seller made a loss and the buyer got a fantastic bargain. The buyer should check the serial number with Kingston to ensure that the drive is genuine – we have a feeling that Kingston won’t verify the serial number.

256GB DT310 flash drive from ebayer naruai786 surely counterfeit

leave a comment »

We think it extremely unlikely that this 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drive listed at auction on ebay by naruai786 is a geniune Kingston – we are sure that this is a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files. Who would list something brand new that is worth over £300 in an ebay auction with a start price of £20 if it is genuine?

Only a complete innocent or a fool would do this – and we don’t think that naruai786 is either an innocent or anyone’s fool.

Counterfeit fake capacity DT310 flash drives listed by tyfdfg on ebay

Seller tyfdfg says in this ebay listing:

Kingston DT310 256GB USB 2.0 Flash Memory Stick Drive

You are bidding on 1 Pack
*Mint condition, Brand New in Sealed Retail packaging, pack is unbroken*

*Please note: this product is a very high quality COPY of the original Kingston USB Drive, Made in China*

Bid with confidence!
Item guaranteed to work perfectly! or your Money Back

If it is not an original Kingston but a copy then it is an ILLEGAL COUNTERFEIT and a counterfeit USB flash drive is always fake capacity and corrupts files. Selling counterfeits is fraud and anyone who does so risks prosecution and a prison sentence.

A counterfeit (or a generic fake capacity flash drive) may well work perfectly when you first get it – but once the true capacity (probably 4GB or less) has been filled with files then the file loss and corruption begins. It seems that ebay has suspended this seller so if you bought one of these it will have vanished from your won list.

hubeiwuhan2010 is another fake flash seller from China on ebay

You cannot expect to buy a genuine generic flash drive with a capacity above 8GB on ebay for under £14 – and you certainly can’t buy a genuine brand name flash drive with a 256GB capacity for this price – it costs more than this for the flash chips alone in a 32GB flash drive – let alone this capacity. This 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 USB flash drive listed by hubeiwuhan2010 is a fake capacity counterfeit which corrupts files.

The price in this buy it now ebay listing from kgtrademark is too low for these to be anything other than counterfeit 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drives purchased from a fraudulent wholesaler (no doubt in China) – the seller may be unaware of the true cost of flash memory and may not realise that these flash drives are counterfeits. DT 310 flash drives from ebayer jiumatu2010 are not genuine but fake!

Cheeky fraudster jiumatu2010 (registered on ebay China) emblazons “genuine 256GB” on the picture of the counterfeit (not a real Kingston DT310) and fake capacity model of flash drive being sold in ebay listing number 110543921522 – the genuine capacity of this flash drive will be a lot closer to 256 megabytes (quarter of a gigabyte) than 256 gigabytes! This USB flash drive will corrupt files once the true capacity has been filled with data.

sanyangai2010 lists counterfeit 256GB DT310 flash drives on ebay

The 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 USB flash drives in this ebay listing from seller sanyangai2010 are counterfeit, fake capacity and will corrupt files. At this price they simply couldn’t be anything other than fakes – they cost a lot more than this to manufacture!! Why is it that ebay is so slow to notice obvious fakes?

There is a lot of guff about ebay buyer protection and paypal protection – in our experience they are far better at protecting fraudsters (by removing listings AFTER people have bought so that they unaccountably vanish from won lists) rather than protecting buyers by removing obvious fakes when the items are first listed (before anyone buys) or warning the victims of fraud by telling them that what they bought was fake, which they seldom do!

Suspect ebay listing by stephan8er69 for 256GB DT310 flash drive

leave a comment »

Axel expressed some doubts about this ebay listing by stephan8er69 so we had a look – we find this listing rather suspect too, but for a more concrete reason than the riskily low starting bid price. We think this DataTraveler 310 is a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files. The seller states in this listing:

Hey every body I have here a brand new Kingston data traveler 310 2.0 256 gb flash drive. It’s the largest flash drive you can purches out on the market, I have just revived this for Christmas to use for my drafting course in school but turns out I bought a brand new computer instead. Now if you looking at this right now you already know the value of this (1000$) I’m selling it for much cheaper just because time are tough and I could use the money to get by. This is brand new never opened. Any questions please feel free to email me.

Thank you and remember Serious buyers only please!!!!!!!

Strange… we are sure that the Kingston DataTraveler 310 was not available in December 2009; in fact it wasn’t announced until February 18th – so did Christmas come somewhat later in Florida than everywhere else??

We think that the picture on the left illustrates our view of this sales pitch from stephan8er69. We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

To ppokwuma: selling counterfeit Kingston on ebay is a crime!!!

leave a comment »

We first reported about ebayer ppokwuma selling counterfeit Kingston USB flash drives on ebay on May 13th. The drive we showed in that article is one that exists (the 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200) but the seller also listed the DT200 in 256GB – a capacity that it is not made in. A buyer who had looked at the Kingston website pointed this out as you will see from the feedback for ebay item number 310219929187:

The information in a question on May 13th (the day we first published about this seller) should have prompted the removal of all Kingston USB flash drives from sale by ppokwuma whilst he or she checked them out. As you can see from subsequent questions for seller ppokwuma the listing was not removed and the seller refused to take responsibility for the item. It was eventually sold for $192.49 on 20th May.

We expect that the buyer will be less than delighted when he or she eventually realises he or she was sold a pig in a poke and has been left holding the bag. Having finally realised that the supplier was fraudulent ppokwuma now has this listing:

There are a couple of questions on this listing and the answer to the one at the bottom (June 1st) clearly shows that ppokwuma has failed to fully understand the implications of an imitation brand name item of any sort, let alone the implications where flash memory is involved. So, for the information of both seller ppokwuma and any buyers who are unsure here is a breif outline:

  1. An imitation brand name item is known as a counterfeit.
  2. The sale of counterfeit items is a criminal offence.
  3. In the case of flash memory a counterfeit always has a fake capacity.
  4. A fake capacity flash memory item corrupts files once the true capacity is full.

We hope this makes it clear to everyone!!

An honest seller refunds buyers who were sold fake or faulty items when they realise – will ppokwuma??
