fake Sony flash drives on ebay from 5ganjuebucuo will corrupt files

leave a comment »

The supposedly 32GB flash drive in this ebay listing from 5ganjuebucuo may have the Sony name on it but it has absolutely nothing to do with Sony and has a capacity very much smaller than the advertised 32GB. This fake capacity and counterfeit USB flash drive.

The flash drive was manufactured by fraudsters in China who program USB flash drives with a small capacity (usually no more than 4GB) to display a false capacity. Once the real capacity is full files are lost and corrupted because there is nowhere for them to go.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report your fake if testing confirms you have purchased fake capacity flash memory on ebay.

This 64GB USB flash drive listed on ebay by xuxiangchao8810 is fake fake fakity fake! Nothing to do with Sony, does not have a capacity anywhere near 64GB and if you were daft enough to buy one it will trash your files once the real capacity (probably no more than 4GB at most) is exceeded by the size of the files you try to save to it. This is a fake capacity flash drive that corrupts files – guarenteed.

You cannot possibly buy a genuine 64GB USB flash drive at this price – in fact you’d be extremely unlikely to get a reliable one of 8GB or over on ebay at the buy it now price shown in this listing! We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

We first reported on ebay seller leoiek (based in China) on the 9th of September. Although this seller’s flash drives were obvious fakes very few ebayers left negative comments about this seller. Either they did not yet discover that this seller’s fake flash drives corrupt files or they fell for bribes from the seller.
