chicago.dragonext:private ebay auction, suspected fake flash fraudster

with 5 comments

We have a couple of questions for ebay seller chicago.dragonext:

  • Why use a private ebay auction to sell a flash drive? – unless (of course) you are trying to hide the fact that you are selling fakes!
  • Where exactly in Hong Kong is GET IT FAST! ???

What do we think about ebay seller chicago.dragonext? We suspect that this seller may well be a slightly more intelligent fraudster than usual. Of course we may get a big surprise and find that this flash drive is genuine. Somehow, we think not.

ebay seller search852 looks like a proper little fake flash fraudster!

leave a comment »

It is absolutely impossible to sell a genuine 32GB flash drive for £20 including post and packing on ebay without making a massive (around £25) loss! Anyone selling genuine items would not make the mistake of listing at auction with such a low start price again. Seller search852 is registered guess where? Hong Kong. One of the main shipping points for fake flash memory items that corrupt files.

Do not buy flash memory items on ebay that are shipped from the far east. Do not buy flash memory items on ebay that are much cheaper than you can buy them elsewhere. In fact, unless you see an ebay seller who provides a lot of information, including a warning about fakes, don’t consider buying flash memory items on ebay at all!!

katie_phoebe looks like an ebay fake flash flash fraudster to us

leave a comment »

The ebay item above sold by katie_phoebe demonstrates two reasons we think this Hong Kong based seller is yet another fraudster selling fake flash memory items:

1) The seller has massively loaded postage to evade ebay final value fees.
2) Auction started at 1p, so little chance of bids high enough to cover wholesale cost of a genuine drive -even with the loading on postage cost!

If you do a little research and have your brain engaged then it is not hard to avoid obvious fraudsters like this one! Think before you bid on ebay!! A massive amount of fraud is conducted on the site on a daily basis – there are bargains to be had on ebay but flash memory items are seldom among them.

We can say without much doubt that this USB flash drive is fake capacity and corrupts files. the same will apply to any flash memory item sold by katie_phoebe.

A bewitched 16GB USB flash drive on ebay??

leave a comment »

Seller salem-traveler seems to have chosen a rather appropriate ID for fake flash drive sales on ebay! Anyone who knows about Salem (in the USA) will probably know about the witch trials there in 1692 – featured in the Aurther Miller play “the crucible”.

However, there will be no witchcraft involved when buyers of flash drives from salem-traveler find that files mysteriouly vanish or become corrupted. It is simply a case of flash drives with small capacity memory chips (probably 2GB or under) programmed to display higher capacities to the operating system.

This is easily done – every flash memory item has to be programmed – fraudsters use the same tools as the manufactures of genuine flash memory, but they enter false information to fool unwary users. Flash drives sold by funkyguard are too cheap to be genuine 16GB drives – you cannot buy genuine 16GB for £10. The fact that the seller has a start price of 1p and charges £9.99 for postage is a way of evading ebay fees – a tactic often adopted by fraudsters.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Report in to SOSFakeFlash if your testing confirms you have purchased a false capacity device on ebay.

gremlin2sHong Kong Seller philico-action has a range of 16GB flash drives on buy it now for 99p with £10.99 post and packing. You cannot buy genuine 16GB flash drives for £11.98 including postage.

Loading the postage costs like this is an abuse of ebay – also a way of trying to wriggle out of fully refunding buyers when the seller gets caught selling fake capacity flash memory.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

2009crazyshop

gremlin2sAnother gremlin has popped out of the ebay bath to sell fake flash memory.

No one can buy a real 16GB USB flash drive at this price, period. All you will get for this price is a fake capacity drive that will corrupt your files.

Anyone who buys from 2009crazyshop is crazy indeed!

As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Another gremlin ID is activated on ebay for fake flash sales

leave a comment »

waichingpiggy

gremlin2sFor some unknown reason our fraudster friends in Hong Kong did not activate the ID waichingpiggy until a month after the ID was set up.

Perhaps they are expecting some of the existing fraud IDs to be suspended very shorly and decided to activate another ID in their fake flash arsenal.

We fully expect that every single flash drive listed by waichingpiggy will be fake capacity – and the brand name ones (such as the transcend shown on the far left) will be counterfeit.

In a listing for an unsold counterfeit Transcend (wrong colour for a 16GB drive) the seller stated:

We are the SOLE ebay seller selling Real 16GB Capacity memory stick USB2.0 high speed

Afraid not – seller is just one of many fraudsters selling counterfeit and/or fake capacity memory items that will cause users’ files to become corrupted or vanish entirely after a while.

As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Hong Kong ebay power seller with dodgy flash drives

leave a comment »

services_2_u

Hong Kong power seller services_2_u does not (unlike most from this part of the world) sell huge numbers of flash drives – just a few sprinkled here and there in listings. A feedback comment about the flash drive shown in the listing above indicates that it was fake capacity. Usually if one flash drive from a seller is fake all turn out to be fake.

As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Looks like another ebay gremlin registered in Hong Kong

leave a comment »

buy.some.here

gremlin2sWe think seller buy.some.here is a baby gremlin registered in Hong Kong. What’s a baby gremlin? A new ID registered on ebay for the purposes of selling fake capacity memory items. These items “mysteriously” fail once the true capacity is exceeded. It is not really a mystery at all.

The failure is due to the fact that fraudsters program small capacity items so that they seem to have a higer capacity. Result? Once enough has been saved to exceed the real capacity the USB flash drive, memory card or MP player that has been fraudulently programmed there is nowhere for the files to go!

As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

gremlin2sWe think that online-trade-centre is yet another ebay gremlin seller – a term we have adopted for deliberate purveyors of fake flash memory in China/Hong Kong/Shanghai whose ebay ID we think belongs to a known fraud gang.

We fully expect that this item and all other flash memory sold by online-trade-centre will prove to be fake capacity, causing data corruption and loss for users of such items.

As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Hong Kong seller jew-fantasy is offering two models of supposedly 64GB Sony USB flash drives. We can state categorically that they are not genuine Sony and will not have a true capacity of 64GB. They are counterfeit and will have a fake capacity.

lankwai_square

Seller lankwai_square looks like a very cunning and devious fraudster to us! This seller is using every trick in the book to get away with defrauding ebayers out of their hard earned pennies with not a care about the data loss that buyers will suffer as a result. The data loss caused by such fraudsters is of much more concern to members of the frankenflash project than the money people may lose by purchasing fake flash memory.

Even in such difficult economic times as now money can be earned again. Files saved to fake flash items can not be replaced (unless they have also been saved elsewhere) – many ebayers have lost things they can never replace by purchasing “bargain” flash memory from fraudulent sellers. If you see flash memory at fantastically low prices you can expect to get a fantastically fake capacity item. Buy from this seller at your peril! We fully expect all flash memory from lankwai_square to be fake capacity!!

As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

Seller hkcashcow has listings for 64GB DT 150 flash drives removed

with 2 comments

Listings on ebay by seller hkcashcow for counterfeit and fake capacity 64GB Kingston DataTraveler have been removed (no doubt at Kingston’s request) – if you bought from this seller get you refund claim in to paypal quickly!

A number of other sellers have had listings for these flash drives removed by ebay in the last week. If you bought a Kingston DataTraveler from any of the following sellers you will no doubt find the item has vanished from your won list:
ultimate_memory, e-choices, n_kashafi, dreamonlineshop, morgen-discount-store, isuper_sales,
virtuallydiscover1823, flashmaster38, dtech8, crawlerzonline

Get your paypal refund claim in quickly! Although item details will probably have vanished from ebay you will

Is this 8GB flash drive genuine or fake capacity?

with one comment

timer168

We wonder whether the 8GB flash drives sold by timer168 are genuine or fake capacity. They seem a bit too cheap to be genuine, and most flash memory from this part of the world seems to be fake capacity. As usual we strongly advise ebayers to test all flash memory with the free program h2testw.

UPDATE:
Information received by fightflashfraud seems to confirm our suspicions about Hong Kong seller timer168. The buyer tested this model with h2tesw and it failed the test – under 3GB was ok – after that everything was lost or corrupted.

In our experience if one flash memory item from a seller is fake capacity then all will be fake capacity – buyers test anything you bought on ebay from timer168 with ht2tesw!

Seems we have another Hong Kong Fraudster on ebay

with 4 comments

elaishop

The flash drive show here is the fraudsters favourite! Why? It is easy to re-program to any fake capacity the fraudsters like – take your pick! Would you like a 4GB fake? Perhaps you’d prefer an 8GB or 16GB fake? If you really want to lose a lot of data our friends in Hong Kong can even reprogram these to 64GB or higher so that you can lose as many files as you like!

This seller also offers the journalist’s dream item:

elaishop_audio

If the journos in the frankenflash project didn’t think these were fake they would be rushing to buy one from elaishop at this price!!

If you bought a flash memory item from elaishop and ran into problems with it do not beleive any guff about it being faulty! This is deliberate fraud – test your drive with the free program h2testw, report in to sosfakeflash, file a claim with paypal and report the seller to ebay – link to h2testw download page (free program from German computer magazine) is provided on our article about the program

Please report in to sosfakeflash with all the information requested in this article – don’t leave it on the site – send it to the email address – then it can go into our fake flash database so that an alert can be issued on the Internet.
