Fighting flash fraud on Ebay

The authors of this blog want to elimnate flash fraud on Ebay

Ebay still has plenty of fake capacity flash drives for sale.

After months of not bothering to look we checked ebay to see if they had erradicated the sale of fake flash memory yet. No – of course not. We only looked at flash drives but no doubt there are plenty of other fake capacity flasn memory items (MP players, memory cards etc.) still being sold as well.

The flash drives sold in all the listings shown below are 99.9% certain to be fake capacity, which ultimately leads to data corruption.

If you bought a flash drive or other flash memory item on ebay you are advised to test it with the free program h2testw immediately as you run a high risk of data loss and corruption by using it if it turns out to be fake capacity.

Addendum from Nandium:
Seems like NOTHING CHANGED then?  Still loads of scammers, and even more dumb cluck ebayers?
Couldn’t post a comment, so did it this way…. Welcome back FFF nice to know you are still at the helm, even if only occasionally…

Response to Nandium from FFF:
Yup – in the years since K started the first blog about fake flash fraud on eBay the company seem to have done precisely nowt to prevent it. Folk are still buying these file-trashing devices on eBay (and elswhere) in their thousands every month, thinking they got a great bargain. As the old saying goes “A fool and his money are soon parted”.
Unless people wise up and test all memory (flash or otherwise) then such scams will continue un-noticed until people have lost data and it is too late to do anything about it.
