128GB DT200 flash drives from ebayer alaaalem likely counterfeits

leave a comment »

It is extremely likely that the 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 USB flash drives listed on ebay by alaaalem are counterfeit and fake capacity, which corrupts files. Genuine ones have individual serial numbers which can be used to verify the flash drive with Kingston – we don’t think they will verify these.

if 64GB DT150 flash drives from ebayer elihanka are genuine seller may make loss

leave a comment »

Seller elihanka has listed a number of 64GB Kingston DataTraveler 150 flash drives at auction on ebay and we wonder whether or not these are genuine. The auction start price is a bit on the low side so seller would be likely to make a loss if there are not enough bidders and the drives are genuine – a rather risky strategy.

These flash drives should all have individual serial numbers which can be verified by buyers with Kingston if they are indeed genuine. If the serial number cannot be verified then this USB flash drive is counterfeit, fake capacity and corrupts files. Testing with h2testw will reveal the true capacity of flash drives programmed to a fake capacity.

We advise everyone who buys flash memory items to test them with the free program h2testw irrespective of where they were purchased – otherwise you run the risk of data loss and corruption.

Are 16GB Kingston drives from ebayer nakedinthebush genuine?

leave a comment »

Seller nakedinthebush has a number of auction style ebay listings for this 16GB Kingston DataTraveler USB flash drive and one buy it now listing. If there are not many bidders on the auctions the seller will probably make a loss (if the drives are genuine) on the auction listings.

Perhaps the seller is using these to attract attention and is prepared to suffer a loss on the auctions in order to establish a reputation, as the total price in the buy it now listing is around what we would expect for the drive. On the other hand nakedinthebush may have bought from a fraudulent supplier …

ebayer jujubug613 finds sneaky way of dumping fake flash drives

with 2 comments

The 256GB Kingston DataTraveler 310 flash drives listed on ebay by jujubug613 are certain to be counterfeit and fake capacity, which corrupts files. We suspect this seller knows it and has come up with a sneaky way of trying to dump them on other ebayers and avoid refunding them if they find out the truth. Here is what the seller (who we think previously sold counterfeit 128GB Kingston DT200 flash drives) says in this listing:

These flash drive’s were donated to be gave away for a small Donation. Before donating you must agree on following terms.

All donations are final.

You are agreeing to leave Positive feedback.

A donation is exactly what it means you are giving money for a cause.

The flash drive is 100% FREE.

ebayers want to retract negatives for fraudster ndspro – why??

leave a comment »

The seller of this ebay item (number 270562708791)  nsdpro is a known fraudster, so why does the buyer (varbel) want to retract the negative feedback left for this fake MP player, as does buyer adrak88 for a fake USB flash drive (item number 270565593556)??

Here is a screenshot of feedback for nsdpro showing the negs from these buyers:

Here is the item bought by adrak88:

So why (given that we are sure their items were fake) are buyers adrak88 and varbel willing to remove their negs? We think they gave into blackmail or bribary by this known fraudster to get refunds and/or compensation. Shame on them!!

If you bought an item from ndspro that uses flash memory then test it with h2testw. If it fails testing leave this fraudster a negative and do the decent thing! Don’t give in to blackmail or bribes – you are helping these fraudsters continue to defraud your fellow ebayers and (much worse) leave them with lost and corrupted files that may have been important, if you do!

Beware of flash memory from ebay flash fraudster crystalpalace1987

leave a comment »

Despite the fact that ebay seller crystalpalace1987 is a proven fraudster who has sold many fake capacity flash memory items on ebay since we first reported suspicions about this seller back in September 2009, a couple of months after this ID was registered on ebay. By December 2009 crystalpalace1987 (identified as a member of a known fraud gang) became a powerseller despite evidence that proof of fraud had been obtained being published on the Internet in November 2009.

This fraudster is still selling fake flash memory items on ebay and (due to a combination of deviousness and the foolishness of most buyers on ebay who don’t test flash memory items on ebay before leaving feedback) crystalpalace1987 now has a huge positive feedback score of almost 8000 and a 99.1% rating!!

Any flash memory from ebay seller crystalpalace1987 (USB flash drives, MP players, memory cards) is bound to be fake capacity, which corrupts files. If you bought a flash memory item from this fraudster do not leave feedback until you have tested your item thoroughly!

jones_england and jp_xxxuk a case of fake flash memory on ebay UK

with 2 comments

UK ebay member jones_england bought a flash drive from ebayr jp_xxxuk (ebay item number 150432811765) on April 18th:

In the listing jp_xxxuk stated:

FAULTY 128GB KINGSTON USB DRIVE
Bought this from China…to load my music collection on in mp3 format
Could only load 30GB then drive crashed
cant access it now, so selling it for spares/repairs
THIS IS FAULTY SO WILL NOT ACCEPT RETURNS
SOLD AS SEEN

So: ebay member jones_england buys this and re-sells it, as evidenced by feedback:

Here is the listing (ebay item number 150436490648) in which this flash drive bought from jp_xxxuk (which jones_england purchased knowing it did not work) was re-sold by jones_england at a massive profit:

So what did jones_england say about this flash drive in the listing? Here it is:

will post on the Friday (the day after the auction ends) so you will receive it on the Monday probably. This will be for a fee of £3
I am selling this memory stick as I am getting an external hard drive to replace it.
This memory stick has 128gb capacity, which is very big! I have had it for about 8 months and it has stored many gigs of MP3’s which I have been playing through my car radio.
99p start grab yourself a bargain
any other questions please ask

Well, we can’t get our breath!

Would we ever buy anything sold by jones_england – NO!
Would we ever trust anything said by jones_england – NO!

suspect Kingston flash drive sold on ebay by sydney_usb_direct

leave a comment »

We suspect that ebayer sydney_usb_direct bought this 64GB Kingston DataTraveler 150 USB flash drive from a fraudulent supplier. If our suspicions are correct this USB flash drive will be counterfeit, fake capacity and corrupts files. If we are wrong the buyer will be able to verify the serial number with Kingston.

This seller also offers a blue coloured Kingston DT mini (a discontinued model) as 64GB – we think this colour was actually 4GB not 64GB and have a feeling that the DT mini was never made in 64GB capacity. We think all the Kingston flash drives from sydney_usb_direct are suspect.

Kingston flash drive from ebayer zj_beo not faulty but counterfeit!

leave a comment »

This 64GB Kingston DataTraveler flash drive listed on ebay by zj_beo is not faulty in the normal sense. It doesn’t work, but this is not a fault as such. The reason for the problem is that this USB flash drive is counterfeit and fake capacity – and a fake capacity flash drive corrupts files. Looks like this is not the first time that this seller has listed a fake Kingston for sale, so we suspect that this was not (as the seller seems to be suggesting) a present!

The USB flash drive in this listing from ebayer pward932010 is without any doubt a fake. This USB flash drive is fake capacity and corrupts files. We’ve seen a lot of fake flash drives listed on ebay with this packaging. Beware of any flash drive (whatever the capacity it is advertised at) that come in this packaging!

This particular flash drive has a fairytale capacity – no genuine flash drives of 512GB capacity exist yet!! We think the real capacity of this flash drive is probably more like 512mb (half a GB) – a very expensive fake.

job lot of 6 fake USB flash drives listed by ebayer ivan-mos

leave a comment »

Seller ivan-mos states in this ebay listing that these rather obvious fake capacity flash drives are being sold as defective. They are not defective – they are flash drives that were deliberately programmed by fraudsters in China to report a false capacity to the operating system.

As a result they will corrupt files when the user tries to save more to the flash drive than the actual capacity of the memory chip – which will be a lot less than the capacity shown on the the little shiny stickers! Any flash drive you see in this packaging, or with a shiny capacity sticker, is fake capacity and corrupts files.
