128GB DT200 flash drives in ebay auctions from speedy2882 may be counterfeit

leave a comment »

If the 128GB Kingston DataTraveler 200 USB flash drives being auctioned on ebay by speedy2882 are genuine then this seller risks making a huge loss. Buyers can check whether they are genuine or not by trying to verify the serial numbers with Kingston – if they are genuine then they will verify the serial numbers. If Kingston cannot verify the serial numbers they will be fake capacity counterfeits and a fake capacity USB flash drive corrupts files.

camhosts lists fake 256GB Kingston USB flash drive on ebay

leave a comment »

The USB flash drive in this ebay listing (ebay item number 110549668655) shown above from camhosts is a fake capacity counterfeit that corrupts files. The Kingston DataTraveler 200 flash drive is not made in 256GB – this is a fake from China. If it was a real DataTraveler 200 the capacity would be 64GB. Strangely, though there was one bid when we captured the screenshot above, the auction ended early (on the 22nd June) with no bids. Did the bidder realise and retract the bid? Another one of these (ebay item 110549628523) did sell on 21st June for £29.99.

Now seller camhosts has a new listing (ebay item number 110550412087) with a picture showing the DT200 in a colour it is not made in as well as a capacity that doesn’t exist:

Amazingly it seems that seven of these were sold on June 22nd with the even more obvious picture of a fake in the new listing!
